Poll at A&M for concealed carry on campus...

Well, I guess ol' Army is really dead this time. That's disconcerting. I wonder if the student government decided this would be the official SG position before or after they got the results. Not exactly a scientific poll. Sheesh. Well, bonfire's gone... A&M becoming like every other school? Dunno.

Given how strongly they took up the anti position after the vote and the email I got before the vote from my rep, I highly doubt they would have been pleased had it turned out the other way. Certainly wouldn't have lifted a finger in support of it.

I really hate to say it, but yes, A&M is becoming like every other school.

This is sad, but I guess that is what we should have expected, with the liberal professors in the universities now.

Wow. Definately didn't turn out the way I thought it would. Not the school I thought it was I guess. At least we didn't have walk-out protests consisting of students AND professors like this one hippie school in Texas I know of...

So what if only 300 students out of 50,000 protested? I imagine most of them just enjoyed skipping class. Note that the one guy the media focused on was the Virgina Tech ex student now in UT grad school. The logic that guy used for his anti-gun argument was atrocious.

On the other hand, there is an active group of UT republicans in favor of CHLs on the Austin campus.

Unfortunately, I was an eyewitness to the Whitman massacre in 1966...and that did not move me to seek a campus gun ban.

How times have changed or so I'd like to think. I went to A&M in the Jackie Sherrill years. Was a great time to be an Aggie but honestly the students would probably have voted against this then. People still had gun racks in their pickups then but with baseball bats so as not to get firearms stolen and some schools still had rifle teams. This was before the Brady Bill but the writing was already on the wall.

Heck, they used to have Rifles in the dorms and go to take out the cannons for artillery practice. These days, if they catch you with a knife or an airsoft gun in the dorms, you're in big trouble.

It was the loss of Bonfire. On Campus Bonfire really united the campus and brought together the Aggie Spirit. It's not the same place without it.

I'm class of 2009, and have talked to my Granddad ('49), Dad ('77), and cousins ('96, '99) about the changes on campus over the years.

We really lost a lot when we lost Bonfire.
