Grr.. No Gun in the Workplace policy
Day 2 on my new job, no 30.06 signs, or signs preventing weapons from being in the workplace, but now I have to sign a sheet informing me "Navarre corporation prohibits its employees from carrying or possessing firearms while acting in the course and scope of the employment." I guess that is notice to me my CHL is not allowed....
ugh...

Re: Grr.. No Gun in the Workplace policy
pretty common. in most cases its not a statement against CHL, its to cover the company and for insurance purposes.
I work in a very pro gun environment, in fact we take company hunting trips, if someone buys a new gun, they bring it to the office to show it off, etc etc. But our employee handbook states no-firearms at work.

I just wanted to point out that this is now just a job questiob between you and them. You cannot be arrested for having the CHL at work, just fired. To be prosecutable, that written notice you signed would have to have the 30.06 wording.
It is pretty clear notice you would get fired if they found out though.

Concealed means concealed.
"Ees gun! Ees not safe!"

Just one correction..change the word "would" to "could." Some companies treat this kind of thing as ignorable boiler plate. Others take it dead serious. IIWII.

I know nothing other than being fired can happen to me, that being said in this economy getting fired is not my cup of tea. I guess I will need to invest in a center of mass lock box

My company's policy says "no unauthorized firearms blah blah blah". I figure the state of Texas authorized me by granting my CHL, so I'm somewhat safe.

It's been announced we're having a "new handbook" coming out in May. Keeping my fingers crossed.

You need to do a bit more research and soul-searching.particle wrote:My company's policy says "no unauthorized firearms blah blah blah". I figure the state of Texas authorized me by granting my CHL, so I'm somewhat safe.
Our Texas laws are, for the most part, written with specificity.
If your company's policy is "no unauthorized firearms blah blah blah" then you can't be immediately charged with criminal trespass, but you can be summarily fired. In Texas, a "will to work" state, you can be fired for anything so long as the reason is not class-based, like age or race.
If your company's policy is written in correct 30.06 language, you can be arrested and charged with criminal trespass. Not good.
My former employer, a Fortune 500, had us acknowledge every year that we had been "told" the company policies. This meant that we had been given notice under 30.06. We, too, could have been arrested and charged with criminal trespass. Not good.

Sounds like you need a nice old cap and ball revolver.AggieC05 wrote:"Navarre corporation prohibits its employees from carrying or possessing firearms while acting in the course and scope of the employment."

Yes, I know they can fire me for whatever they want, but when I first asked this question on this board many months ago, the overwhelming majority agreed it was legal for me to carry, but still a fire-able offense. Is it your opinion I should come right out and ask my employer if I can carry a firearm since I have a CHL? I've seen some people state that their wording says something like "specifically authorized by (company name)". Mine simply says "unauthorized", which, in the depth of my soul, I am perfectly okay with rationalizing that to mean I've been authorized by the state of Texas - and that would be my argument should they ever happen to find my concealed firearm. There has been a big problem in our office park with homeless people camping in our building, and even harassing employees. A few people have actually scared off thieves trying to break into cars in the parking garage. Yes, I know I can be fired, but I'm okay with that since I interpret the wording to be somewhat vague as to whom can actually carry a firearm at work. And for what it's worth, my boss is an avid bird hunter, and we have a lot of hunters in our company.

Re: Grr.. No Gun in the Workplace policy
The company policy says that no unauthorized guns are allowed. Does their policy spell out which guns are authorized and which are not? More specifically, does it spell out that yours are unauthorized?
