Re: NASA?
Time out, hold on a second...
I have a sneeky feeliing they are going to Space Center Houston...The amusement park/PR/propaganda wing of NASA...
I believe they are good into the parking lot of "that" facility...It is accessible to the public off of NASA Rd. 1, and you do not cross any U.S.C. boundaries, like at the front gate entering government property...
You should leave it locked up and concealed, in the vehicle parked in their (Space Center Houston) parking lot...
If you are going into NASA (Johnson Space Center) proper (government property) well then you need to secure it elsewhere and not drive into the facility with it in the vehicle...
I also am not sure, but if you do everything but take the "tram tour" into NASA (JSC), I do not recall if the Space Center Houston, a private company, posts a 30.06 sign at their entrances...
There may be some history in the archives here, we should check just to be sure...

Re: NASA?
Update...
Brian...PM me, My sister can get you some discount passes, and save you some $$$ for your visit...
She confirmed to me that the Space Center Houston facility is owned by the Disney Corp., they do post a no guns sign (whether it is 30.06 compliant, she was not sure.) they do check bags and other belongings because they assume you will be taking the "tram tour" on site...So leave it locked up in the vehicle in their parking lot...It should be fine...
Thats if this is where you are going, let me know how many people are in your party...

Re: NASA?
Space Center Houston (the visitor's center) actually sits on Federal Property. However, there are no signs on the gate (at least when I was there in Oct. 07) indicating it is such. You do go through a gate past a guard shack that is manned, but have never seen them checking vehicles like into Johnson Space Center. When you go into the Space Center Houston, there are guards there that ask if you have any weapons, including small pocket knives. They will give you a claim ticket and hold onto them for you though.
Not sure of the true legality since it is Federal property, but If I were going to do anything, I would leave it unloaded and locked in the car at most.

Re: NASA?
To me, taking the tram and touring the actual NASA buildings is more interesting than the space center. If you have kids, then the opposite is probably true. I had no idea that Disney ran Space Center Houston. That explains some of the "attractions" that I saw during my last visit.brian704 wrote:i am sorry yes it is the place in houston off of nasa road. i did not even think about the other place. Re: NASA?
A little bit of trivia...Not that I am beating my chest about it...
But if you go into the old PAO (Building 2) where the theater is, on-site, not sure if it is still on the tour...
But there is a big mural painted on the wall there by Robert McCall...
The big Astronaut (in the center) that is suited up in the EVA suit, and holding the American Flag is my Dad...Yeah, on the environmental control panel on his chest it says "YOUNG" (For John Young) its really my Dad face...

Actually, the Space Center Houston is ran by a 501(c)(3) organization and was funded by donations and a sale of $68 million in tax-exempt bonds to the public. Disney was used to help design some of the attractions, but they don't actually own it. http://www.spacecenter.org/AboutUsMSFEFIHistory.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;WildBill wrote:To me, taking the tram and touring the actual NASA buildings is more interesting than the space center. Re: NASA?
I am not saying that the Space Center building doesn't have some good stuff. The exhibit of the early spacecraft and hardware from Mercury through Apollo is essential. I am just annoyed by the exhibits that try to make it an amusement park or carnival.brian704 wrote:my wife has never been i went one other time. and you are right the tram is the only thing i really want to do i dont really care about anything else but the tram with the tour threw the old buildings
