Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?

I know this is probally a silly question for most of ya'll, but is the "30.06" a Texas State specification or Federal?

Ok oh gurus of CHL knowledge. I went down to renew my car registration and I noticed that Potter County has posted 30.06 signs next to the door to the tax office (inside the building), next to the elevator, and next to the front door as you come into the building.
The only court I could find in the building is the JP court on the 11th floor and the County Judge also on the 11th floor. Can they prohibit concealed carry because of the courts on the 11th floor? Or is this all just a big old steaming pile of Bull Droppings (got to maintain the 11 y/o rule). I would just like some straight facts before I go and talk to the county commission (as if that would do any good since most of them don't follow the rules anyway, but that is a different story) but the county judge Arthur Ware seems to be a pretty good guy. City of Houston Public Library building downtown has what looks to be a compliant 30.06 sign. It has big white letters on tinted windows in both Spanish and English on both front entrances. It also has a gun buster sign. I don't believe it is a legal ban unless it has some designation for school field trips.

I was there this week and the text isn't compliant. Also like others said it's government property.

It is city-owned property and there are no court offices/prison/etc. inside so you should be good to go as long as there are no school functions or professional sporting events going on.

Thanks "Dave-in-Austin" - probably doesn't matter now. It is a teacher workshop (don't know how that fits as a school event), but also discovered that we are traveling in the school owned Suberban so that cuts me out of even getting to the Convention Center with my equipment.

They can post a sign but that doesn't mean the sign has any legal force.

If the sign doesn't meet the "notice" requirements or "the property on which the license holder carries a handgun is owned or leased by a governmental entity" then 30.06 does not apply.

To be legal, it must state the following verbatim:

"PURSUANT TO SECTION 30.06, PENAL CODE (TRESPASS BY HOLDER OF A LICENSE TO CARRY A CONCEALED HANDGUN) A PERSON LICENSED UNDER SUBCHAPTER H, CHAPTER 411, GOVERNMENT CODE (CONCEALED HANDGUN LAW), MAY NOT ENTER THIS PROPERTY WITH A CONCEALED HANDGUN."

"CONFORME A LA SECCIÓN 30.06 DEL CÔDIGO PENAL (TRASPASAR PORTANDO ARMAS DE FUEGO) PERSONAS CON LICENCIA BAJO DEL SUB-CAPITULO H, CAPITULO 411, CODIGO DE GOBIERNO (LEY DE PORTAR ARMAS), NO DEBEN ENTRAR A ESTA PROPIEDAD PORTANDO UN ARMA DE FUEGO."

It also must meet the size and contrast requirements.

Now, even though the sign may not be really legal, the hospital local police and others may feel it is. If you are found out, then you may 'beat the rap, but not the ride' and be detained, taken in etc. until you can prove otherwise. Your mileage may vary.

I know that questions on this subject are been repeated over and over again and some persons may be getting tired of reading and responding to them with courtesy, but I believe that as more and more persons apply for their CHLs, the 30.06 subject will continue to be a very important topic. I hope that anyone who responds to topics that seem old re-runs, will do so in a manner that will not intimidate the new CHLs of tomorrow from asking questions that to senior members may seem "dumb questions." I believe that knowledge is gained by learning the right answer to every question asked no matter how "dumb" it may sound. Thank you for your answer and well mannered courtesy.

I second those sentiments, being new around here.

It seems that many local governments post unenforceable signs. But as had been mentioned repeatedly, you may still be arrested and go through a lengthy and expensive process anyway.

I find this behavior on the part of "civil servants" irksome. What are the cures for this wrongness, and how do we see one or more applied?
