Does anyone know if DPS updates status at certain times of the day or just certain days of the week? or is it likely that they update individual status as they work them?

How long can I expect to wait to receive my new CHL after having to redo my finger prints?

I submitted my CHL packet around 7/1/08 after completing the CHL course in late June. In October I received a notice saying I needed to redo my finger prints, so I had them done electronically; I sent them back around mid-October. That was nearly two months ago. Should I expect to wait another 1-2 months?

CHL_Ag, it may be time to call them and ask how your application is progressing.

NEW OR RENEWAL: NEW
NAME: Skinnyb78
DATE A COMPLETE APPLICATION RECEIVED BY DPS: 09/11/2008
DATE LICENSE WAS RECEIVED: 12/30/2008
TOTAL NUMBER OF DAYS IN PROCESSING: 109
DID YOU RECEIVE A LETTER FROM DPS REGARDING A DELAY: NO
DID YOU CAUSE ANY DELAY IN PROCESSING. IF YES, EXPLAIN: NO
YOUR CHL NUMBER: [DON'T PROVIDE IN THE OPEN FORUM]
YOUR TEXAS DRIVERS LICENSE NUMBER: [DON'T PROVIDE IN THE OPEN FORUM]
IF DPS GAVE YOU A VERBAL EXPLANATION (EXCUSE) FOR ANY DELAY, PLEASE EXPLAIN: First time I was told my app was stuck in the background check. Second time there was a little more elaboration that HARRIS County back ground checks were slowed due to IKE.
WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION LATER: YES of course

I believe Mr. Joe Driver and staff being so prompt in response to my inquiry was the only reason I received my license when I did. Other classmates that submitted their apps the same day and DPS received their apps before mine haven't received their plastic yet.

Some have called the offices of the Governor and their state rep to ask them to look into delays in their application.

Is this helpful or does it just add fire to the flame?

Any time a call or letter is received, and DPS is contacted on behalf of the constituent, I believe DPS is required to make in inquiry into the process. I can't say for sure, but a lot of folks believe this has resulted in their application being given a little higher priority. Others believe that if you call, and your application gets a little more attention, it's taking attention away from someone else who may have actually been in line before you.

It appears to be very helpful pretty often, and never harmful, as long as you're polite and respectful.
