Unless you're willing to train in Israeli style carry, of course you keep one in the pipe.

A friend, who is also a Krav Maga instructor, carries regularly but for various reasons, does not keep one in the chamber. But he's practiced enough that he can chamber one in a fraction of a second, says he can even rack the slide on an opponents face if he's grappling.

Why would you not carry with one in the chamber? You may as well not carry at all if you do that. "Excuse me Mr. Bad Guy, wait 5 seconds for me to draw and chamber one first". Yep that would be real effective. May as well name your beneficiary.

There is a video, I've seen it, and I did look for it last night. But it's not a Krav Maga vid, or a "IDF defense training". The guy that is showing the "move" has several vids of himself and another guy that appears to be a student. Looks like they are in a caliche pit in Israel. Bunch of tacticool stuff. I thought I had it marked, but can't find it.

I did see an amazing display of self defense - however, until I can defend myself w/ Krav Maga - I will defend myself with my handgun. And....my handgun has one in the "pipe" always!

The one I saw was a full draw, tactical presentation at eye level. Quite a bit different from that fellow. The slide racking takes place at eye level as the gun is "pressed into" position.

While I can't understand why anyone would depend on the the Massad Draw, I learned something from the video.
Therefore it is a good video.
Then again almost all of my combat training was from drill sargeants. Most have them had rougher language and worse attitudes.

I am glad that you learned something from video. I did also, but that doesn't mean that I did not find it offensive.

I am not a prude when it comes to rough language or attitude, but when in the proper context. The guy in the video is not a drill instructor in front of the troops, nor does he have the training or experience of a drill instructor. IMO, he's just another rube with a video camera.

He didn't even justify any reasoning for not having one in the pipe. He only demonstrated that he could rack the slide quickly. He made his point.

Sensitive folks should be made aware that his language and attitude is course. I think maybe because his hands are ripped into a bloody pulp from his rear sights. I will abstain from his suggestion of practicing this technique.
