Yeah. We'll probably leave fairly early so we can play a little bit. We want to hit Cheaper Than Dirt, Cabela's, and Bass Pro before we have to pick up the wife. Her plane lands in DFW at 7:35, so we should have plenty of time if we leave Odessa early. I've got you cell number. I'll make sure I call you. Maybe we can get together, at least for a little while. You still coming up this way on Thursday?

Thats great
That's a Great Story. I don't think most Troopers and LEO's freak out over something like this, most have come to recognize that people Have CHL's, I'm sure that he didn't feel you were a threat.

Re: Thats great
The fact that the officer noticed it from behind Tac already gave him a tactical advantage. Therefore, the officer had no reason to freak out. I'm sure that he gave Tac an additional lookover (body language, stance, etc) to assess him, before even saying anything.Briankey wrote:That's a Great Story. BTW, [implied_british_accent]that was very cricket of Tac[/implied_british_accent] to pony up for the officer's lunch.
Re: Ooops. Failed to conceal.
Well this is not a failed to conceal story, but the outcome could have been just as embarrasing. Not long ago my grand daugter was sick so the wife asked me to run to CVS down the street and get some meds. Being the Papa I am I without hesitation grabbed my USP Compact .40 and off to CVS I go. I get the meds as Dr. Mom had prescribed and went to the register. Being the ex cop I had, (notice the past tense) always carried my DL, CHL,Debit card and cash in a money clip in my pocket. My wallet contains company credit cards, no cash and personal credit cards maxed out due to guns, ammo and holsters. Any way the clerk rings it up and I reach in my front pocket for my money clip and I got this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach... I did not have it. Now at this point most folks would be say oh crap I cant pay for my purchase, as a CHL'r I am say oh crap what if I get caught by cop that I dont know or I know I have burnt tail light on the truck ... all these thoughts racing. Luckily I have a second debit card I keep in my wallet for second account.. but the feeling in the stomach was something to remember. I now carry everything in one wallet.

Re: Ooops. Failed to conceal.
WOW! I was gone for a few days and not able to keep up. Man, it builds up quick and I had a ton of posts to skim through to catch up!
It was a good encounter. I can't complain at all. And, yes, it is proof that alot of police are very supportive of CHL. I was talking to my brother just the other day, and he wants to start taking some NRA instructor classes, and the CHL instructor class. A couple of officers he works with really think he should, and have already asked if their wives can take his class if he ever does it.
I usually try to buy a meal for officers if I can. I started this a few years ago. My brother, and two of our friends were having lunch during a break from a training class one day. All 3 of them were in uniform. When they sat down, there was a group of guys who were making comments and being generally obnoxious. They were talking about how crimes were happening and these "cops" (not really what they said, but not 10 y/o daughter friendly) were just sitting there eating, and comments like that. They just ignored them. When they got up to leave and pay, an old guy about 70 got up from a nearby table and took their ticket and paid for my brother and friends. He then went over to the obnoxious table and proceded to give an old school style rebuke to the young guys about respect and the hard job that our officers do. My brother told me about it later that day, and how much they appreciated it. I decided then that a little support goes along way, and now, I try to do the same when I can.

This is an *awesome* story. Thanks for sharing!
And I think buying the meal for a LEO is a wonderful gesture that I too am going to start doing when I see them.
