I hear the refugee situation in Houston is just horrible these days.

Plenty of refugee related crimes up here in Dallas as well......

TX - I have noticed this too and wondered if it was happening everywhere. I do 2 new classes a month and, since January, I have been booked up to a month in advance with a waiting list.

I really thought the "traveling law", as reported, would cause a decrease in new students, but I haven't found that many new students are even aware of it!

What do you think is the cause for the sudden increase in applicants? And, FWIW, I think this is also the cause for more fingerprints coming back from Austin and more applicants being delayed in getting their licenses.
I think it is 3-fold, the evacuees (refugees are people who flee a foreign country or power to escape danger or persecution, per Merriam-Webster) and 2) the unusually warm weather this winter.

I think 3) is people concered with the potential for terrorism here in the US.

Since 1995 I believe my student renewal rate is around 35%.

Katrina and Rita. And Katrina refugees in Texas.

Just being blunt about it. I think a lot of people saw what happened, and got serious about getting around to getting their CHL.

Kevin
I think that has a lot to do with it.

I renewed mine right on queue, several months before the renewal length changed. Oh well, I'll get the extra year next time around.

[Soapbox Extended]

The fact that a law abiding citizen, has endured the process to legally carry a concealed weapon for personal self defense, in todays world, should be reason enough for renewal. The dangers out there are not, by any means, decreasing. They are changing though. Terrorism, foreign and domestic, is at an all time high, rape, murder, theft......just plain old assalt in general is increasing and with no signs of slowing down. Our LEO's, great folks that they are, are overworked, understaffed, undergunned and definately underpaid. The anti-gunners are building campains to disarm us and leave us to the mercy of the bad people. We simply cannot let this happen!!!
I personally think that if you are issued a CHL, it is your moral duty to maintain it's renewal. It is your moral duty to maintain proficiency with the weapon of choice as well. Why would anyone take this right so non-chelantly and treat it like a library card renewal. Hey I dont go to the library anymore to check out reading materials so why would I renew my library card??? Because this is America and you have the freedom and right to do so!!! :patriot:

Good job tex. I'll build you a box anytime you have that much to say in that short a time. Not a wasted syllable. :patriot:
