I've described how I handle this situation in another thread:

That raises a question I have never even considered... what do you do with your pistol when you do drop trouw and it's in a public restroom stall where the divider walls don't go all the way to the floor? How do you keep from getting made then?
It depends on the situation. I generally take the far end stall, which is usually a larger handicap stall. I am right-handed, and these examples assume you are right-handed and carrying strong-side. Reverse walls in these examples if you are left-handed. If the wall is to my right, then I can simply drop my pants with the gun holstered, and any view of the gun will be obscured by my pants/leg/toilet. If the the stall is oriented the other way around (wall on your left), then I unholster and place the gun on the toilet paper dispenser (or other suitable surface). Depending on the proximity of the neighboring stalls (or if I'm in a stall other than the one on the far end), I may pull the holster off my belt along with the gun and place both up on the toilet paper dispenser.

One of the important steps of the Wally Walk is to use the bathroom and to prepare beforehand what you will do.

I won't go into the usage of a purse since most of you don't have that option. (We've discussed it on the ladies' thread.)

If the stall has a hook, you could CAREFULLY hang it by the trigger guard, but make sure the safety is on and keep it pointed in a safe direction.
You could also temporarily unholster it & just hold onto it.
I prefer the purse, but that doesn't seem like a good option for many of you here.

. . . or if you're wearing a vest or a jacket, you can put the gun into a pocket of that vest or jacket and hang IT on the hook . . .

Actually not a good concept. Recently a LEO had this particular way of dealing with firearms in the bathroom and had a negligent discharge in a courthouse. No one was injured.

He claimed he'd been doing it that way for years. Maybe you get away with it, maybe you don't. If it resulted in one ND it could do so for others.

I'd like to mention a few things to consider.

I recommend against placing the gun on either the toilet tank or the paper dispenser. It's very easy for it to slide off of the toilet tank and guns have been left behind in the stall. IIRC, there was a thread on packing.org way back about an officer that forgot his Glock.

Regarding using the hook, it is possible for someone outside the stall to reach over the top and remove items from the garment hook. It would usually only get the thief a jacket.

If you feel you must unholster while taking care of business, I suggest letting it rest in the lowered pants.

And you surely won't forget it.

Remove weapon from holster.
Take off belt.
Loop overhead (bandolier style).
Replace weapon in holster and do your business.

+1. And when it's in the lowered pants, the barrel should point at the porcelain throne, not at the door to the john or the stall next door.

I try not to have to go to restroom which requires the use of sitting down in a stall if I am CCW with and OWB rig. Around town I sometimes use a Maxpedition Jumbo Fatboy .......in tan - so its not the tactical black ;).....and it secures a fullsize handgun with ease.

On a side note: When I first started carrying I had this fear I would be out in public (like at the mall, grocery store) and I would accidentally hit the mag release and a fully loaded mag would hit the floor and rounds would go spilling out everywhere.
