I used to, but quickly realized that my pockets had too much stuff in them already, and my keychain is large and unwieldy enough as it is.

It's definitely something I recognize as a valuable tool, but I just don't carry it at this time. (I've had hot sauce get on my face before - Dave's Insanity Sauce - and it was no fun. My face felt burnt for two days, and that was just from residue off my fingers. OC is, I believe, a good bit hotter than that stuff.)

That pretty much sums it up for me also.

I recognize the value of a less-lethal option. In fact, my wife carries pepper spray daily at my insistence. As for me however, I haven't been able to find a convenient way to carry it, especially at work. I already carry way to much junk in my pockets and on my belt that I can't do without.

for the longest, I wouldn't carry it b/c of the asthma. However, I've been considering getting the stream-dispensed version (as opposed to the fog). There are just too many scenarios that would cause me to stall, wondering if lethal force was necessary. OC would be a good intermediate tool.

ETA: I got one and now carry it all the time. (Got Mom & Mars one too.) I'm not altogether comfortable with it. It doesn't stream enough for my taste. I tested it a few days ago when there wasn't any wind. My broncial tubes started to constrict. I can certainly see a problem for myself if I ever have to use this, but am guessing I'll just protect myself/family first and then get immediate medical help if I ever need to use it.

I've been wanting my wife to carry some. When we were at Gander Mountain this past weekend they had a rack full of different kinds and brands. I was overwhelmed by the choices and decided to do some research on what would be the best. Can anyone give me some recommendations?

I just found the highest Scoville number (measure of "heat") that I could carry easily.

Cops carry Fox spray, which is effective, but I passed on it because it comes in larger cans intended to be worn in a belt holster.

Along with a folding knife, bandaids, Advil, Nexium, a comb, a pen and various other stuff. Oh, a SureFire if I'm gonna be out after dark.

I use a butt pack. And I don't care what people think.

Does anyone know if this stuff lets out in a fog or in a stream?

And to add....For those who like brands with lots of real world use, Sabre is a good one since it's used by most of the large police departments in the U.S. including the NYPD, the Chicago police, and the Dallas police.

Venus, Another place, http://www.selfdefenseproducts.com/pepper.htm describes the Fox keychain as having a "splatter stream".

I have been buying Fox from them for several years. I just switched over to the DPS brand they sell. The keychain unit claims a 15' range.(stream)

I also bought some inert practice spray. We haven't tried it yet. The inert practice stuff is supposed to spray just like the real thing. You might want to buy some of that and try it out and see if you get any stuff drifting back on you.

OE, I ordered a keychain for myself, Mars, & Mom.

Are you supposed to test that stuff? If so, what is the concern for it running out?
