No car safe is unbreakable, and any kind of safe basically has a "steal me" sign on it.

They can take the entire car if they want to.

If you keep a spare weapon in a safe, it will not be quickly accessible. Then are you going to take it out ever time you get in the car and stow it before you get out?

IMHO, if you drive more than a little, the best tactic is to carry in a holster that will allow you to deploy the weapon quickly.

:iagree:

Many of the post mounted hoslters that mount under the dash or beside the seat offer a good second method for easy deployment. Just move it from your on-body to the car holster, then back again b4 exiting the vehicle.

The poster didn't describe a "left lane bandit" situation. He was on a two lane road driving the speed limit and he explained why he didn't pull onto the shoulder. That's not trying to enforce the speed limit and he was not obliged to increase his speed to a point the tail-gaiter was satisfied.

Thanks for actually reading the post. Trust me I have no desire to block traffic or speeders when I travel in 4 lanes of traffic. Had that been the case, there would be no post at all. It did make me re-think how and what I carry in a vehicle. I also now think of a car jacking situation which could happen very quickly and pocket carry in a vehicle just doesn't seem to cover some situations.

My comment on that solution is that it requires you to unholster and reholster in the car, with whatever risk of an accidental discharge or sighting by a bystander.

But as I always say, do whatever you think best.

Very sound advice, and I have come that conclusion. I'm going to investigate IWB holster options. Thanks so much for your comments!

Carry a BUG in a centerline (hung around your neck) if you can. I do this when traveling or having to sit in church or such. I carry a P3AT and it isn't heavy enough to even notice most of the time. It isn't quick draw but quick enough in a situation like you described. And better than leaving a handgun in a vehicle.

Actually, they may be more resistant than you think. I have one of those "breadboxes" as you call them, and while it didn't have a handgun in it, it did have my wallet, and it did prevent the theft. The box's coating was scarred up, and the cable had some crimps (looked like he tried to cut it with a scissors), but the box, cable and wallet were all still present when I came back to the car.

I suppose that if the thief had a cable cutter or lineman's pliers he may have been able to get the box, but I suspect that they are harder to get into than you think they are.

There's a nifty OWB holster from Fist, Inc. that goes from crossdraw to driving holster by clicking a button and rotating it 90 degrees. I've got too much real estate to cover, so a crossdraw probably wouldn't work for me.

Not your job to enforce the speed limit. move over when/if possible and let faster traffic by safely. It wasn't your concern and could have gotten you into a situation you later didn't want to be in.

Just my Suggestion.
I agree wholeheartedly. I had even copied the line in the original post to paste here and then comment.

As far as the second gun in the car, I carry one. Simply because I cannot reach my IWB holster while driving. In fact, when I drive on a bodyguard detail I carry in a shoulder holster.
