Another couldn't resist adding that I was an "idiot" who "knows it all". (He subsequently edited his post to delete the "idiot" reference.)
Still another says he carries in an urban area with around 1 million people in it. He keeps his head "on a swivel", and has a very broad definition of what would constitute threatening behavior. That sure sounds relaxing.
Another was an LEO who claimed to carry openly for 14 years and who never had a badge showing. I think he was a part time deputy sherrif who lived in a small cabin halfway between Buffalo Hair, MT and Dustwater, ID. But whoever he was, he sounded pretty cool.
And another "cleverly" related how police in Alabama (technically an open carry state according to the law and in the minds of the opencarry.org people) treat people who are carrying openly in the city. Apparently, they arrest them and toss 'em in jail. Later on, they end up having to let them go. Kinda makes you feel like an undersized trout or bass, hey?
And me? Well, this stupid idiot carries concealed pretty much everywhere he goes (where it is legal) and remains cool, calm, and collected the whole time. No one attempts to snatch his gun. No cops have ever taken him down at gunpoint while exercising their ignorance of the law. And if anyrhing goes down in his presence where having a gun would be a benefit, he will be sure to have tactical surprise.
In my book, that's not bad for a stupid idiot.
Good morning Frankie,
In reply, let me say/repeat: I am not responsible for the comments of others, I have no influence on what is posted at OpenCarry.org
As I stated before, I am simply trying to gather information that may rebut your previous posts, or perhaps even support them. We will see.
You have repeatedly asked for evidence of persons OCing in urban environments, I am trying to fulfill that request. I am trying to do so in a respectful manner, and have provided you with this link so that you can go there yourself with your concerns.

If nobody's doing it, it's no surprise that nobody's getting snatched. Show me some place where people are doing it.
To which I reply, "You can't find non-LEO's who carry openly in urban areas."
I have found open carry to be very rare. This goes double in urban areas.
The problem is that there are no urban areas in the USA where open carry by non-LEO's is practiced by any significant number of people. (What I would call significant is > 1%.)
But when you or others tell me that snatching is not a problem in urban areas because we never hear of it, I must point out that the argument is a red herring. The reason we never hear of it is because almost no one carrys openly in urban areas. I've travelled pretty extensively and I've only seen two people (not counting myself) carrying openly who were not LEO. One was in a shopping mall in Phoenix around 8 or 9 years ago. The other was in Brattleboro, VT around 30 years ago. (Note that Brattleboro is not exactly an urban area.)
So I'm still waiting for someone to tell me how many non-LEO's they have seen openly carrying in urban environments, or to admit that practically no one does it.
The reason examples of "snatching" from non-LEO's are hard to come by is because very few of them are stupid enough to carry openly in the wide variety of places where there would be a significant risk.
Because most people are endowed with good sense, the number of people (non-LEO's) carrying openly in crowded, urban environments is minimal. So there is little data available.
You're asking me to show you cases, and you can't even show me where people are doing it. If no one's doing it, there won't be any cases.
Go walk the streets in Alexandria, VA for instance. I have, as recently as last summer. Count up how many people you see going about their business carrying openly. On a week long trip to VA, I never saw even ONE.

But either way, you would still need a pretty big sample to see anything.
On this point we agree. An in depth and meaningful study of this matter would require years of research (and a large polling base) to achieve any level of accuracy. Clearly, no one has chosen to pursue such a task… or we would already have our answers.
In lieu of such a study…all I can do is provide you with the results of the poll (at the end of 30 days).
If you provide no other documentation of your own, then I will simply tally the number of people who stated they carry in urban areas and have experienced no problems, then divide it by the number who have.
I recognize this poll will be imperfect, but the purpose for it is to note the experiences of other’s and compare it to yours. The pretense seems to be that because YOU have not witnessed OC in urban areas… it does not exist (or only in small numbers by people lacking common sense). We will simply see what the folks have to say, that is all I can do.
Thanks for your thoughts,
Flint.
