My parents just bought their first pistol. My mom mentioned she liked to take some basic training..... more safety and how to properly use it etc etc etc.
Anybody know of some good places around DFW?

Congrats to your parents for becoming aware of the need for self-defense.
Your dad should take some training too. For those who have not shot weapons before,
it will be an eye opener, and then they will know just how loud that bang will be if they ever have
to use it for self-defense.
What is their handgun?
Do they plan on getting their CHL's? Whether one, both, or neither get their plastic,
getting a 2nd gun would be great so they'd each have their own piece.
I'm great at spending other people's money, eh? :-)

The bought a .22LR handgun. Its a good start. If you knew how far my parents have come on firearms, you'd be surprised. I finally got 'em both to the range a few weeks ago, and my dad was hooked. He is already talking about what he wants to get next. I really am trying to get them up to a .380 at least but I'll let them go at their own pace. I don't think my mom will ever get bigger than a .22. She really hates recoil.
I can see my dad getting a CHL, but I don't forsee my mom getting one. I may be able to talk her into the Utah (or what ever the other state crossfire teaches) one since the class is shorter. Who knows.... we'll see. She may surprise me.

If you plan on moving Dad up eventually, you might as well get him into a .38 or a 9mm.
If he goes to .380, the ammo scarcity seems to still be in force.
Congrats on getting a gun into both sets of parents' hands.
As time wears on, they'll grow more comfortable with some firepower.
Mom with a .22 is still better than harsh words.

Are there any basic classes closer to Dallas proper than Roanoke? Since I've applied for my CHL, a couple of my sisters-in-law have expressed a desire to learn about hand guns. None of them is likely to take to a 1-1/2 to 2 hour drive for a 4 hour class.

We don't have any openings for our regular Basic Pistol classes until December 5. If you need something sooner, you can email Marty at Marty@Crossfire-Training.com . His work schedule is more flexible and sometimes he can schedule a private or semi-private class. Yeah, I know he's a guy, but trust me, the women love him. (I can't figure that one out)

+1 for Greybeard and Denton County Sports, many of the women in my neighborhood went to him for training and CHL's, they could not have been happier. My wife went through his Handgun 101 and some private shooting lessons then through CHL. I figured that 2 things guy's should never do, teach their wives to shoot or learn to drive standard transmissions.... leave that to the pro's and avoid the domestic dispute....
