New Member in East Texas

Hello! I'm Tom and have been lurking and reading for the past couple of months here on the forum, but finally registered today so I could do some posting. I am set up to take my CHL class this upcoming Saturday, Feb 25. I talked to the instructor and asked a few questions. I had asked if I should go ahead and do the L1 prints thing before the class and he said I should wait for a week after I send in my packet. I was just throwing that out there to see if anyone has done this or been advised otherwise. I just want the entire process to go as smooth and quick as possible without any snags. I already have a Florida CHL, so it's not like I can't carry already. Therefore, it's not that big of a rush but I will feel alot better when I have a Texas CHL living in Texas. Thoughts, suggestions, comments, opinions and criticism always welcome. Thanks for your time and input.

I did the online portion AND got fingerprints done before the class. On the advice of the person from L1, I sent a copy of the receipt from L1 with the packet of information from the class(the completion certificate, pictures & holder). When it came up online, it showed everything. They won't start anything until they have everything!

Welcome. :txflag:

I completed my fingerprints a month before I submitted my paperwork. Once they received my paperwork everything was updated even my prints.

Welcome. Be sure to update us after your class on how it went, your impressions, etc.

You don't HAVE to, but if you shoot really well you can brag about your score.

Welcome aboard. I live in Lufkin and I'm new to this forum as well. I don't know what would speed or help the process. I knew it all had to be done. I took my class this past Saturday and did the online app that evening. On Tuesday morning I had my prints taken and that afternoon mailed my packet.
Hope all goes well and I get my plastic soon.
Same with you.

Welcome aboard, I guess there's a lot of different ways to go about completing the CHL process, I took my class first, about a week later did the on line application and made an appointment at L1 during the app process, got my finger prints completed and mailed the packet the same day. It took the DPS 17 days to update and show any thing for my application and in the background check portion right now, been there for a week now. Good Luck!!!!

Welcome to the forum Tom.

I can't guarantee it, but I'd bet you that unless there is anything unusual in your past your wait will be much shorter than most others in recent years. However, with the possibility of BHO getting another 4 years, I predict CHL applications will begin to rise sharply in the next few months as well as the price of guns and ammo. And the availability of those guns and their ammo will decrease because manufacturers won't be able to keep up with the demand. We are already beginning to find some calibers of ammo difficult to find on the shelves. It will be 2009 all over again.
