My first outing - carried in the Alamo
Received my plastic a few weeks ago but had not carried in public until this weekend when the wife and I took a long weekend trip to San Antonio. Our first stop was the Alamo, a place near and dear to me. Not knowing what their rules might be concerning guns, I called ahead and asked if licensed carry was allowed. I was told that it was allowed but that I should check in with the Ranger at the front door. Upon arrival I flashed my chl, as instructed, and the guy waived me on, mumbling I don't need to see that. It was a cool experience, my first public (legal) carrying of a gun as it took place on sacred ground where so many layed down their lives in the name of freedom - opposing tyrannical oppression of individual rights. The Alamo defenders were specifically in opposition to a ruler (Santa Anna) who had basically stripped away constitutional rights once guaranteed.
Certainly, the big picture and the long range "big picture" implications of the event as it unfolded wasn't fully known to those men as they were locked into what became a life and death struggle but in the end, their sacrifice would spawn a revolution that resulted in what we know today as Texas. I could go on, but you get the point.
My rig that morning was an M&P 9c in an OWB leather deSantis pancake with thumb break worn at 4oclock. Luckily it was cool enough for a coat as that rig is a bit bulky to conceal under an untucked shirt. I did go out the next afternoon using an untucked Columbia fishing shirt. That setup printed badly, but as has been pointed out in this forum many times, people aren't looking and as long as you keep it out of site you're probably ok.

Re: My first outing - carried in the Alamo
Totally read your title wrong. I thought you were "outed" at the Alamo, not it was your first time out in public carrying. Whew!
I don't know why they told you to "check in" with the Ranger at the door unless they were just messing with you and they got some kind of bet going on to see how many new CHL holders they can get to show their license each day. If a LEO doesn't ask you for ID then you don't need to show it.

I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Totally think C-dub hit "send" twice.

Oh yeah. I left our the "r" in your and fixed it within a couple seconds, but somehow ended up with the double post and I can't delete it.The Annoyed Man wrote:Totally think C-dub hit "send" twice.

I just edit the 2nd post, replacing the original wording completely with "duplicate post". This software here handles it better than other forums that I've been on but it still can happen.C-dub wrote:Oh yeah. Good thing you didn't change the "r" in "our" to a "t" to spell "out" in this post the same way you did the last post or this post might have done the same thing that your first post (or posts) did.C-dub wrote:Oh yeah. River Walk is good. Casa Rio is great. I proposed to my wife there 22 years ago this Friday.Ericstac wrote:We spent a long weekend in San Antonio too :)
