Although many options are available, and I have learned, are acceptable, I tend to stick to the Federal HydraShocks.
I have found that the recoil is manageable, as well as, the accuracy to be of the highest caliber (pun intended).
I, equally, am fond of Speer GoldDots, and as they are readily available, use them in my revolvers.
I feel that I may soon make a concerted effort to re-evaluate my Defensive Pistol ammo, after having read several of Massad Ayoob's journal entries that detail the negative connotations associated with the names of some Defensive Pistol ammo. GoldDot simply sounds less abraisive than HYDROSHOCKER DEATH BULLET!!!!!

Collins Cartridge cccammo.com is a good source for Ranger ammo.

Not sure where you are at but the Dallas Market Hall gun show has been my best source. they are readily available and cheap there. Last I bought there I paid $21 for a box of 50. Otherwise there's a guy over on Combat Carry Forums that sells it for $25 a box. He quoted me $112 shipped for 4 boxes.

Let me know if you'd like to have his contact info.

I have actually had a difficult time locating different self defense loads to try in my Daughters 9mm. I live in "Small Town" East Texas and there is not a lot to choose from.

Even "Midway" (on-line) has many of the rounds I want to try... on back order.

I was able to get my hands on only these so far:

Remington Golden Saber Ammunition 9mm Luger 124 Grain Brass Jacketed Hollow Point Box of 25

Hornady TAP Personal Defense Ammunition 9mm Luger 147 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point Box of 25

There are 4 or 5 others I want to try, but apparently I'll have to order them. Rats!

I have tried most of what is available and have settled on the Hornady TAP for 9mm, 40 s&w, 45 acp and 223. The stuff is accurate and reliable.

some that i've tried with success include:

S&W 6904 - 9mm Federal expandable fmj
M&P - 9mm Gold Saber
1911 - 45cal 230 Federal hydras
Gold Saber

It is interesting how each gun has it's favorite ammo.
