Hello everyone, I've enjoyed reading the forum while I am waiting...you probably know what I mean about waiting. I have a question about being identified by LEO. I have more than one vehicle registered to me but I am the only one in my household who will (soon to be) CHL. Question: are my vehicles with license tags associated with my CHL status? Or just my D L number?
Thanks for the responses, I'm anxiously awaiting my opportunity to carry my Springfield xd9sc.

Welcome to the forum BeetleB. The CHL is linked to the DL, not the vehicle.

First: Welcome to the forum! You've found a great stopping place on the internet. Lots of great folks and great information. Enjoy.BeetleB wrote:Hello everyone, I've enjoyed reading the forum while I am waiting...you probably know what I mean about waiting. I have a question about being identified by LEO. As to your question: I don't know the answer, though there are a number of LEOs on the forum and one of them, or some other one in the know, will no doubt be along shortly to give you a definitive answer.
In the meantime, I can give you my best, though admittedly rather uninformed guess, which is that your CHL will not be associated with your vehicle tags - at least not directly. Coming from a database programmer/developer viewpoint, here: It would seem most likely to me that your CHL is associated with "you" in the DPS database. Other than CHL, one of the most absolute identifiers of "you" in the DPS system, though not required, will be your DL, or other state-issued identification. It just makes sense to me. Technically, you don't HAVE to have a DL or a vehicle to get a CHL. It's just quite common for people to have DL, and often cars as well. So I have no real doubt the DPS system is set up with cross reference between DL and CHL. They may toss in vehicle as well. I'm not in LE, so I don't know how important the association between vehicle and CHL would be to those in LE.
Just some random associations to support my unproven theory. Worth almost what you paid for them.
Of course, once you get your plastic, you can start working on the rest of your household to get theirs. It's more fun in groups.

Welcome and wearily waiting here too!
There is a "waiting room" area where you can join in the lot of us beefing, crying, moaning, and then shouting joyously once the plastic comes in the mail. It helps to give you some idea where you might be in the process.

Re: New to forum & a question
This doesn't apply directly to your question, but your response brings up a difference that it isn't clear if you understand. Depending on the age of your children, it could be a problem. However, your wife is definitely able to drive a vehicle with a handgun in it as that would be covered under the Motorist Protection Act. A police officer stopping her and suspecting or finding a concealed firearm on or about her while she's in the car would not be a legal problem in and of itself unless your wife is statutorily forbidden from having a firearm (eg a felon).BeetleB wrote:Many thanks for the welcomes and responses.
