I'm glad you mentioned that because I had not thought about that aspect of carrying. I guess it kind of narrows us down to using the stalls only!

Not really, just pee standing up at the urinals "cold weather style" ... trying to avoid as much of the nitty gritty details as possible ... don't undo your belt, just unzip your fly and use that flap in front of your underwear. As for when you need to sit on the throne, there are countless other discussions here with tips on this - but generally speaking it is very doable.

And don't forget to wash your hands afterward - feel like I need to go wash up after typing the above

I like your idea, Dan. If the only downside is ease of reholstering (I agree with you that the draw is WAY more improtant than one-hand reholstering) that could be fixed by using Kydex instead of all lether on the holster itself. I seems like this idea would be easy to adapt for use with any of the IWB hybrid holsters out there (commercial or homemade). Here's one I made recently that would be adaptable to the TDM Belt system by just changing out the clips and making an inner belt for it.

BTW, Dan, how do you carry your spare mags?

I don't know about you, USA1, but I usually make my guns "hold it" until we get to the range :smilelol5:

Absolutely.

The first thing I did was try kydex using an old blade tech I had on hand, as I like the fact it maintains its shape for the reholster, however, I found the leather to be more comfortable and went with that.

IMO, most, if not all, production IWB holsters could be effectively worn using the same type of internal belt technique. The MTAC, kholster, etc... The pants, and the external belt, provide enough friction to keep the rig in place, and the internal belt helps prevent the gun pulling the holster out during the draw.

I generally carry a spare mag in my back pocket, though I've got a mag carrier that fits on the rig itself. Perhaps I'll futz with it and see how I like it.

Good ideas!

When I tried with a cheap IWB holster I couldn't find anything comfortable. I'm hoping the MTAC I ordered will fill the bill. But even as mentioned here it could probably be easily modified in a reversible way to use either clips or a belly band. Any ideas on what would be the most ideal material for a thin comfortable belly band? I was even thinking some thin buckskin might be nice....

Surgical elastic is the material used in many commercial belly band holsters. Its big advantages are that it stays in place well and gives with your movements to maintain comfort. Its drawback is that it may not provide enough stability in the 1.5 - 1.75 inch width you'd need to use to fit most existing IWB holsters.

Then again, you could simply purchase a commercial belly band holster with the holster built in. They work quite well, especially with lightweight framed guns.

Looking at the picture, its hard to imagine how you get a good solid grip on the gun before drawing. Not enough of the grip seems to be exposed for it to work well. IMHO anyways.

The loop or ring is a good idea to make the velcro more adjustable I think. I'm still thinking modding another holster might be good if it doesn't fit in the traditional clips for me.

Also in general to the original topic of carry position. I like the idea of a 1-2 o'clock appendix carry, it seems to me I have more "control" over my firearm. Whereas at 4-9 o'clock I have a percieved probably irrational fear that the gun is more easily snatchable. The problem is that position seems the least comfortable, again, hoping MTAC will help, but I don't know....how do people make it work? Or is it just not that popular because of comfort and some just deal with it?

Yep agreed. In that picture the pistol is 'jammed' way down deep, in reality you leave more of the grip exposed. It works well when you're in shorts and t-shirt summer time mode, put the cumberbund on and go.

Does it get hot in the summer? I'd be more inclined to carry a pocket gun in the real hot summer with light clothes on. Seems like that band up that high would be hotter...but I guess like a lot of things might not know until you try it.

It is warm/hot during extended stays outside in the summer, but if you're running around, house to car, car to walmart(or store of your choice), back to car etc. it's not too bad. For extended outside activities you're right, pocket carry is probably the way to go if you own something small enough to fit in your pocket.

I don't wear this as high as it's shown in the pic.

And one other thing to note, is if any of the band is against your skin(belly-no undershirt) you want to make sure the Velcro is lined up properly(so that it's not rubbing against your skin) otherwise it feels like sandpaper..ugh.

I don't have my plastic or holster yet, but that was my thought exactly. That's a great setup.
