applying on line- does it speed things up any?
the wife and I are scheduled to take our class in a few weeks. Does applying and paying on line ahead of time speed anything up?

I doubt it, but you get a PIN, then you can check your status a million times a day, like most of us did.

I was wondering the same thing.
I looked back through the different months and it seems to be a slight advantage to online but there are a few online that had to wait longer.

Nope, not one iota.

I posted in the waiting room about trouble getting the packet. I did class at begginning of November and paid online but couldn't get the packet till mid January. They sent several according to thier records but supposedly the mail was losing them. Then 3 packets showed up in within 2 days mid January. One is still missing. I recommend you get the packet from the instructor and send it in with delivery confirmation.

No, there is not much of anything you can do to speed up the process...sorry.

It actually slowed mine down a couple of years ago.

I wonder if it could make any speed difference with paying online or sending a check? When you do the online application they have your money immediately. If you send a check or money order, do they wait until it clears before proceeding with processing the application?
I went ahead and applied online because I knew I would have time to receive the packet before my scheduled CHL class. I figured even if there are no speed advantages, at least there would be less chance of data entry error if I did it online.

I did the online application and it still took 134 days. I don't think there really is any speeding things up over there. Although after I waited for so long I did contact my state rep and DPS called the next day and said its issued. Just don't torture yourself with the pin # to much.

It has other benefits (like being able to read what I type instead of what I try to write), but speed isn't one of them.

It did not for me.

No sir.
My Chl instructor said it would. I tried. It did not IMO.
Though I believe that you could not really know whether it did.
There are too many other variables for each individual"s application
to determine this.
