Gotta ask how do you like your holster? I have the same one and carry my XD.45 Service model in it with no problem and just love the holster. I dont wear baggy clothes either. Wrangler type jeans, Durango boots and a t-shirt or flannel and I dont print.jeremya wrote:Thanks guys! I have carried several times with my OWB holster and in a few days (Christmas) I will have my IWB holster. I can't wait to try out the IWB (M-TAC) the OWB holster I have from Comp-Tac rides a bit too high to be comfortable.
So far every time I have carried I felt like there was a spotlight on me. I guess it's just going to take a little time... I think the new holster will help as well.
Another quick question... do most people carry a spare mag in a mag holster or no?
thanks,
Jeremy

For those of you who aren't prone to wearing a Hawaiian shirt, try camo shirts. They hide any bends in the material just fine. I wear lot's of black t-shirts, and that helps with shadows.
This summer I'm going to try an under armor sleeveless shirt with a t-shirt over it. Just gonna pull the under armor over the pistol, so the t-shirt will just slide along the under armor shirt with no snagging on the pistol. This is pretty much my 'look' too. T-shirts and jeans kinda guy.

Re: Questions about Printing...
you might be better off with the UnderArmor shirt under the pistol
wear the outer shirt as a cover garment. It'll make for a quicker draw, if you need to.

FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

Re: Questions about Printing...
I can't find any specific mention of it by others on this forum (maybe I spelled it wrong), but I sometimes wear my 5.11 t-shirt under any type of dress-shirt that you would normally tuck in.
You can have a weapon in both pockets (under your arms if not familiar with 5.11 t-shirt), and it feels like under-armor. With your shirt tucked-in and flared out on both sides, it is difficult to be made.

I carry my BUG like this probably half the time I carry, though it's usually with a work shirt.Purplehood wrote:I can't find any specific mention of it by others on this forum (maybe I spelled it wrong), but I sometimes wear my 5.11 t-shirt under any type of dress-shirt that you would normally tuck in.

I've done the 2-weapon solution on a couple of occasions, and had no problem - though I prefer to have the BUG pocket-carried with the main carry in the shirt, to allow an alternative draw were the need to arise and draw from the holster shirt not feasible. That's how I do it on "dress up" occasions where I can't use an un-tucked cover shirt with a belt holster.
Here's an illustrated example:

+1 for me on the Hawaiian shirts!! I've been wearing them for years. And Keith B (from another post on this thread) - my wife picks MANY of them out! Crazy, eh? I look at it this way - it's not too often that you see a guy in a Hawaiian shirt having a bad day - usually it's a good time! That's my philosophy anway! And yes, they work pretty good for CCW too.

I guess it depends on where you live and ones lifestyle. I've been wearing Hawaiian shirts long before I ever started packing. Hawaiian's and Galvestonians must be the most armed men on earth.

I think Hawaiian shirts scream 'I love Magnum PI'. I have no problem with that.scootergeek wrote:To me the whole Haiwan shirt just screams I got a gun. Good luck with what you decide on. Welcome to the life of a CHL'er.

Re: Questions about Printing...
Those of us "in the know" know what constitutes a likely concealed gun. We've seen the products advertised. We've discussed them. We've talked options. We've tried stuff out.
Joe on the Street doesn't see any of these things. He doesn't see the over-sided flat fanny pack as a gun holster. He doesn't see the un-tucked shirt as a cover garment. He doesn't see the lump under the vest. I bought a couple very light HI shirts to try out at work, and people commented on the shirts... I feel they print a little more than the things I was wearing before, but hey, nobody else noticed...not even the other CHL people in my area.

What's wrong with just going shirtless with a pistol in a OWB holster with a plastic bag over it !!!
Actually just found a perfect shirt for me. I've had a problem with "Dickies" style shirts (tooooo long). I wear 3x shirts because I have wide shoulders and back, but these shirts are always too long.
However, Academy has a 'Magellan" collared khaki style shirt with velcro/button pockets that are 3x width, but are 2x length........... perfect!!!

I worried about "printing" too, but I checked into the "SmartCarry" holster which is really a pouch type, that is positioned inside waistband but in front in the genitalia area. I can carry it while wearing shorts and t-shirt and not be "made".

Re: Questions about Printing...
If I read your post correctly, your guns were "facing" each other. If that is true, as a general "suggestion", I would suggest you switch ends on the couch. It is always a good practice to "control" your gun by minimizing the opportunity for it to come into contact with others in general, and BGs in particular. If you switch ends, the ends of the couch should better protect your gun and minimize the risk of someone sitting down beside you, brushing up against some hard metal object, and thus inviting unnecessary questions. JMHOThe Annoyed Man wrote:Last night, one of my friends from church and I were leaving a Bible study we had been to together, and we started talking about rifles. After a few minutes, he straight up asked me, "do you ever pack heat, or do you have a CHL?" Well, he's a pretty good friend, and he is gun friendly, so I confessed that yes, I carry and have a CHL. He said "me too," and showed me his Glock 17 which was hidden under his sweater. He then asked to see what I carry - a Kimber Ultra Carry II - so I showed him. We talked for a few minutes more, and then each went on our way.
Now, the point of all this is that he is right handed, I'm left handed, and we have been sitting in the same spots on the same couch for the past 6 weeks on Thursday nights - with him on the left end of the couch, and me on the right end. Thus, my gun side was facing toward him, and his was toward me, and neither one of us ever realized that the other had been carrying all this time until last night when it came up in conversation.
The odds are practically nil that an uninitiated person is going to realize that you've got a pistol concealed about yourself.
Re: Questions about Printing...
This is what I understood from my CHL instructor. If you accidentally flash - he used the example of the wind flipping up the tail of his shirt while he was outside with a group on the firing line - it's just that: an accident. YOu have made an honest attempt to cover & conceal, and something beyond your control exposed his weapon which he immediately rectified. As far as i know there is no printing law!As far as accidental showings in public no harm unless you cause an uproar and stampede out the door causing injuries!
At a LGS, one of the sales clerks walks around with his 1911 commander tucked in an underarm shoulder rig which he wears under a vest. While it is covered by the vest, if he moves that arm even a fraction, the Commander sees daylight. It sees a lot of daylight, too, in the course of a day.
If my understanding is incorrect, if there is a printing law, I need to be corrected - please. But no rush...I'm Week One into what will likely be a 3-5 month wait.
