over a little plastic card with my picture on it arriving in the mail, but here I am and here I go.
My CHL paperwork arrived in Austin on 5/11 and my pin was dated 5/23, so which date does the 60 day wait start. I also see where other's have gotten theirs in 3 or 4 weeks, which makes me even more crazy.
I thought I was squeaky clean and being a Vietnam Vet to boot, I'd be in the "early" approval catagory.
"What the Heck is going on!!!"
Okay, now I've ranted and feel much better.....I'll be quiet now and get back in line...........Thank you

The 60 days starts the day DPS gets your complete packet. I too was surprised to see the very short processing times recently, but I don't expect that to last, unless the CHL division has been given a larger staff. Those folks have been working short-handed. Still, you may well see your CHL within the 60 "limit."

Obsession is good. You will find a lot of company on this forum, m'self included. I believe I am truly obsessed with my firearms and this forum.
Keep checking the status 10-20 times each day like I did.

My wife and I took our renewal class at the same time and sent our packages in on the same day…Her CHL arrived considerably sooner then mine.
We’re both “squeaky clean, and the first time through mine came back before hers.
I suspect it’s sometimes just the luck of the draw on processing time. But even if it takes the full 60 days, it will pass quickly.

From what I have heard, it seems there ARE a few factors that may take you out to 60 days.
1. Certain counties are slow about doing the background check. Travis county for example.
2. If you have lived in multiple counties in the past 5 years, that increases your chances of one of the counties taking the full 60.
3. Errors filling out the application. This technically doesn't push you out to 60, the 60 days starts when DPS has a completed application.
Good luck.

I have heard Bexar county isn't fast. My background check was in Travis and Bexar, so I assume that Travis county was the holdup. Bexar could have been slow also though.

I recommend you take this time to do some reading on CHL & related issues. Not only does this make the time move more quickly, but you end up being armed with much more knowledge by the time your plastic arrives.
It might not hurt to start going places wearing just the holster (not the gun). This gets you accustomed to the position(s) you will be wearing your gun. If shirts tend to ride up over the holster, you will find out now rather than when they gun is present also.

Don't get in a hurry...I am currently over the 60 day limit and still waiting. I asked and was told it is still going through the "normal" processing.....

Oh yeah. If you don't have a gunbelt, go over to thebeltman.net and order one. My poor belt of 10 years is sagging horribly under the strain of a glock 26. I believe the wait is currently around 3-4 weeks from order to delivery. Wish I ordered one when I was waiting for my CHL.

I just ordered a highnoon.com belt and holsters. I am excited to see how they turn out. I am going to order a beltman belt after they get here just to compare the two.
