Just found online that DPS has received all my documents and now it is awaiting background information.

How long does that usually take?

17 Days for me, that is with a clean record. Maybe more with something on your record.

nope--i'm so clean i squeak!

Just kidding--I am a USN vet and have also been fingerprinted so many times for legitimate reasons they could probably do a timeline of age! I am an RN(fp), my husband has a used car dealer license(fp because I am officer in coorporation) license to finance used cars(same reason)---and I'm sure there are other times that I don't even remember! There was a time when a cop friend of ours would just show up occasionaly for something my husband was filling out and say that they needed my prints again!

Unfortunately previous background checks and/or security clearances don't really play into the speed. However, the DPS has been normally processing the apps much quicker these days; seems like the average is around 30 days, but sometimes less. During and just after Obama election time in 2008, there were licenses taking 3-4-5 months or more to get issued!

Hope yours is one of the quick ones!

Welcome to the forum "Just Me"! Question...when did you send in your packet? I sent mine on Sat and still haven't seen any updates on my online showing they received it. I didn't send it certified since my instructor said it really didn't matter. If they lose it , I would need to resend it anyways...didn't matter if it was signed for! LOL! I know I am jumping the gun a little...(probably more than a little) I just expected to see something on the website by now.

I had filled everything out online and did fingerprints before I took the class on the 31st. The rest didn't actually go in the mail until either the 5th or 6th--today is the first day that it shows that it has been received.

You mailed it on the 6th, today's the 13th... that's right about par, JustMe. Nothing unusual there, maybe even a day or two faster than normal. Welcome to the Waiting Room.

Agreed. I sent mine in on a Monday and my status did not update until the following Tuesday. I will say that of the entire wait, that was the most nerve racking. Did it get lost? Did the mail man eat it?

Took mine 30 days just to update to a materials received standpoint. Sounds like you guys/girls are sailing right along!
