March 2011 Applications

#1

Post by Texas_Tactical »

I figured I'd start this month off. So I already have my CHL. However I've been encouraging and helping my mom to get hers. She took her class last week and I helped her fill out the online app. Now as soon as she gets her prints she'll be good as gold. :thumbs2:

I'm the first one in my family to get a CHL, I say that because I'm only 22 and had mine a little over a year. My parents aren't opposed to getting a license at all they've just taken a lackadaisical approach to it (e.g. "I'll get it when I have time") aka excuses. Hope to have Dad get his CHL no later than this summer. My mom is really excited and I'm glad she's doing it so she'll be able to protect herself should the time come and also to have someone else to discuss CHL with in the family. I've told her about the forums and she's looked around a little bit but I'm going to try to get her to join.

She's going to be carrying a Ruger LCR because as I stated elsewhere "the pull-backer thing is too hard to do" referring to the slide.

Literally just got home from my class. One of the most eye opening experiences I've ever had. I thought my instructor was Top notch. Application done and L1 already visited. Send off on monday and then start my Christmas Eve can't wait dance.

Now is where you learn how patient, or not, that you are.
It generally takes 2 weeks + to show your status.
And if you haven't been watching others from previous months, it does seem that the website is behind reality, some have said that they have received their licenses before it showed Mailed.

Good to know about the lagging online status. I was paying more attention to the timelines posted in members' signatures.

Now I know not to keep checking to see if the status has changed.

For me, it's more about making sure the process goes smoothly and less about being impatient...yeah, that's it. ;-)

I keep thinking back to something my instructor said. There was only 7 people in my class, including myself. The instructor ws in awe about it, stating that all classes leading up to march were jam packed with people trying to get things done before the march first fast requirement. Personally it seems dumb to try and get in before that date, just for getting around the electronic fingerprints. I actually like the idea if it reduces the chance of getting kicked back. But all this makes me wonder how far back it will keep us march guys, if the DPS just received a flood of applicants. My intructor also said it should only be 3 weeks or a tad bit more for those of us who has already done everything but the class. Boy i hope that's the case over a 60 day wait.

Well, I'm at two weeks from when I sent in my checklist items and no online status update yet. I'd like to know exactly how long it took to update. So, I'll keep checking every day...hopefully there's not too much impact from a large number of late February applicants.

Just figured I would chime in as well....

I sent my packet in February 28th first thing in the morning and I sent it in overnight mail. My return reciept actually showed that they recieved it in Austin that same day!

so like everyone else here I have just been waiting and hoping that the February rush didn't slow things down. From looking at previous months it seems like there is a good 30ish day turn around.

As of now my status still shows they are waiting to recieve my packet. I check it every day hoping for changes. We will see what tomorrow brings! :hurry:
3.01 -PACKET RECIEVED
3.25 - processing! Waiting on BG check & FP.
4.05 - FP approved. Waiting on BG check.
4.20 - Manufacturing
4.22 - Mailed
4.28 - PLASTIC IN HAND

My EDC choices:
Glock 26

I think this months application thread will be a lot smaller because of the March 1st cut -off.

Did anyone in here possibly go to the Texas Handgun Academy in the Dallas area for their CHL class?
