I just checked my status and the website shows they are waiting on a passport photo holder? I ask the instructor at the time I took the class and he didn't know. Can someone please tell me what the photo holder is? Thanks

Sounds like your instructor shouldn't be teaching the class if he doesn't know what the most basic form of the bunch is.

Good grief I was looking for something the photo goes in not a form. My instructor is a good guy he was just looking for the same thing me and six others were looking for. Thanks

The confusion is easily understood.
Up until last year, it actually WAS a photo HOLDER. Now that it doesn't hold the photo, they ought to change the name to "photo template" or "signature card" to reflect it's real purpose.

Amen! The CHL process is difficult enough without having confusing names for documents.

You guys are all really quick to jump on the "beat up the instructor" bandwagon. But those of you who are not instructors have no idea how many changes we have had to keep up with in the past year.
The vast majority of Texas CHL instructors are not members of this forum, considering there are about 4000 instructors out there. Many of them are not active, teaching classes only on occasion. And, of those that are, they may have ordered enough packages last year that they have a good supply and are not yet aware of the application changes. Add all that up with the fact that DPS has not always been real forthcoming with info in a timely manner, and you can see the confusion.
So, lighten up, folks! We are all doing the best we can with the info we have at hand!

I am not an instructor, but I can understand with all the changes, etc. makes it hard on them.

Our photo holder was a specially stamped envelope. We put the photos into it, and it went into the envelope that the chl-100 and whatnot went into. I don't think it is that difficult, but people tend to make it that way.

I think that's the point of this thread... it's no longer like that. What you had was actually something that *held photos*. The new "photo holder" is just a piece of paper that gives instructions on how to take the photo, and a place for you to sign. It doesn't actually hold anything. See how that could be confusing?

Oh man,
I filled out the application prior to taking the course, and I got my prints done at the L1 service center. The rep there told me that the photo would be submitted digitally.
So, when I took the class, I told the instructor to leave the photo and photo-holder out, since I'd already submitted it.
3 weeks later I realize my application is on hold because I am missing a photo. It's not until I call that I found out that they don't accept digitally submitted photos... although apparently starting soon they will ONLY be accepting them digitally!
Go figure.
It's in the mail now though!

I learned long ago not to trust anything I considered "important" to anyone else. A simple reading of the Applicant Information page at
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administra ... ntInfo.htm
would have prevented all the confusion.
"Original CHL applicants must continue to sign the
CHL-6 "Photo Holder/ID Signature" form and return it with two (2) passport photos regardless of the method used for fingerprinting; however, signatures are not required on the back of the photos. (Not
e: The photo taken at the time of electronic fingerprinting is for identification purposes only and will NOT be used for application purposes.)
