Well, I've overcome my reluctance and taken the plunge. I'm not sure how I'm going to conceal in my daily life, but it just seems like the right thing to do, and I'm sure I'll get (and eventually contribute) some great information through this forum.

Hasn't even been a full day of waiting yet, so I'll hold off on the complaining until a suitably respectful amount of time has passed!

Package mailed: 8-9-10 (app completed online ahead of time...)

This is worse than Christmas when I was a kid ... My rational self knows there's no possibility of acknowledgment yet (I mailed the package Monday and this is Thursday) ... but Ms. Brain Stem keeps poking me to go check.

I am new to the forum and have enjoyed the post reading and learning a lot.
Question, I completed the class and mailed everything in on the 4th of Aug when should I expect to see my online status?? I see some are able to check status as soon as 2 or 3 days after DPS received there packet and some it takes 2 weeks or better any rhyme or reason to the difference??

Application =incomplete( received back 08_19_2010 due to Address for last 5 years and employment for last 5 years incomplete)
I have had same job for 43 years and same residence for 39 years just over looked back of app.Mailed application back Fri 08_20_2010
Finger prints complete
Affidavits received DL= valid
Citizenship= good
Passport Photo holder= under review
Photo= received
Proof of class room training= received
Proof of proficiency= received
Fee= received
Background check under review(This should not be a problem as I hold a Top Secret clearence
Waiting for plastic

I took the CHL class last Saturday and mailed my application packet off yesterday. Now the long wait begins.

So.... Checking Status....

I submitted my online app around the 29th of July. I mailed my paper work on the 9th of August. Since then I've been going to the "Texas Online" CHL site where "New Users" can "Apply" and "Returning Users" can "Login". I enter my TXDL#, SSN, and DOB and click the Login button as a Returning User. I get the message "You are not eligible for any services at this time. This may be due to an application in progress. If you think this is an error, please contact customer service." Am I accessing the right site? Am I in the right place? Am I getting the same response that others are getting before they start processing my packet? I'd hate to be doing all this waiting and checking based on the wrong site or something.

That sounds like the message that I got before the status actually showed up. It is about two weeks before you see status after they have the package. Mine was a little longer 6/23 to 7/14)

I can tell you that checking it often doesn't make the process go faster.......

When I log in as a returning user (the green "login" button, not the green "apply" button), I get the following message:
License Status: Application processed online. Concealed Handgun Licensing is waiting on the receipt of required materials. Once the application and materials have been received by Concealed Handgun Licensing and processing has begun, a more detailed status will appear on this page.

I submitted an electronic application, so this might not accurately reflect what you should see if you sent in a paper one.

Sent my renewal in yesterday, I will chime in here once I get my new license.

Howdy all. Been lurking a while waiting for the August room to open, so time to join in.

It took them a week after receiving my packet to update the status. However, they showed that my online application was received "pending submittal of documents" within two days after completing it in July. Seems like there is no rhyme or reason as to the time or sequence with the site updates.

7/6/2010: Online application transaction
8/7/2010: CHL Class
8/9/2010: Packet mailed
8/13/2010: Received green "receipt" card indicating forms arrived at DPS 8/11
8/18/2010: "Application in progress"; all information received/OK, background check in progress

8/7/2010: CHL Class
8/10/2010: Mailed to DPS
8/19/2010: Online information Available

I'm hoping my approximate week from received (assuming it took two days to get there) instead of the typical two weeks to show up on the online system means I may have a quick processing time... probably baseless hopes though.

Oh, and "knock on wood".
