Looking at your sig line i would say about 30 some odd days in. We have been told the 60 days starts when they enter it in the system. If you got your pin about the 26th, then best guess is they entered it sometime shortly before that. Depending on the time it takes to get your background checks back, you probably have at least another 30 to go. Be patient, it will come!!

Today is your day 60.
Government Code §411.176(a) says, "On receipt of the application materials by the department at its Austin headquarters..." -- not when they get around to opening the envelope.
It's calendar days, not business days.
Of course, that's all theoretical.

Thanks Jim. DPS has been stating (per other posts) that they start the 60 days when entered into the system, but legally it starts at packet receipt as you listed.

Thanks for the help guys. That's the same numbers I was coming up with, but wanted those with more miles on their boots to chime in. Guess there's nothing left to do but hold my breath til it gets here!!!!!

Looking at others who applied in January and February, turnaround seems to be 70 to 100 calendar days with no hangups.
You probably would have heard from them by now if there was some problem like missing information or bad photographs.

Make sure to add "completed" application to that equation. The code absolutely reads an application is considered received once DPS has received a completed application.

Like Keith said... be patient, it will come.
As long as you see "processing application", that is a good thing. That means there are no problems and it will come.
Just hope you don't see something like, "application incomplete, detailed letter sent".
Bad, bad, bad.
Remember, only 30% of us in the state of Texas are "fortunate" enough to be here. I'll wait as long as it takes, as long as I get it in the end. Then I'll NEVER let it lapse again.
See you on your Wally Walk.

Actually, that's only true in theory. Mine stayed on "processing application" for nearly a month while they had sent me a letter to notify me of a problem.

??? Do you mean 30% of the folks in Texas have a CHL?
If so, it is actually only about 1.3% (314,574) of the total population of Texas (24,326,974), so a much more elite club!!

I applied from Harris County. DPS received my packet on 1/26/09, I just heard today that it was accepted and issued. Now waiting on mail. Total of 101 days so far and I had no problems, contacted Senator and District Rep. Probably around 110 days to get plastic.
A good trick to count days, use MS Excel. Put start date in cell A1 "1/26/09" in my case. Then put current date in cell A2 "5/7/09". Finally put this in cell A3 "=DAYS360(A1,A2)" without the quotes. This will give you the number of calendar days between the two dates.

I took the class 4/18/09 with the packet I received from DPS. I mailed my completed packet to DPS on 4/20/09. I used USPS to mail it and had a tracking number assigned. According to USPS track and confirm email I received it was delivered to Austin 4/24/09. I've checked the DPS website several times for my status and all it says is "Packet Mailed to Applicant". When will this status change? Shouldn't it say processing if the packet has been received?

According to DPS, it takes approx 4-6 weeks before your CHL application is processed. That's when the status will change. You are looking at the mid-June timeframe before that will happen according to the date they received your app. I mailed mine (1st Class Mail) on April 2nd and still waiting for my status to change to Processing Application.
02.07.2009: Completed On-Line Application
02.19.2009 : PIN received
03.21.2009 : CHL Course Completed (The Sharp Shooter)
04.02.2009 : Paperwork Mailed via First Class
XX.XX.XXXX : Application Approved
XX.XX.XXXX : CHL Received
