February Applications

#1

Post by UpTheIrons »

Am I really the first one?

Hand delivered my app today to Building I at DPS HQ. Good thing, too. I forgot to mark what sex/gender I was! Otherwise, all was in order. The guy behind the counter said new applications are currently running ~60 days and I can expect a PIN in the mail when the app enters the system (gal I talked to last week said that would be 3-4 weeks). Is that a reasonable turnaround? PIN in 4 weeks, completed license 4 weeks later?

I'm applying out of Guadalupe County and just squeaked in under the 5 year timeline (5 yrs 1 mo) with prior residence in Harris County. Hope that doesn't come back for further scrutiny -- I marked nothing on the app for Harris, since I was outside the 5 year window, but they only want to know the last 5 years, so I'm good.

Why did it take a month from the class to getting the app in? Us poor country preachers gotta budget these big expenses! Mrs. UpTheIrons sends her app in on March 1, and we'll see how that goes, too.

based on the info Irons gave me (above), I also dropped mine off at building I today. did my packet online, already have a pin.
see sig.
we'll see. I have a 'void' in one of my thumb prints due to an injury. Forensics guy doing the prints said it "shouldn't" be a problem since it doesn't cover any key feature. possible they get rejected by the FBI.

Well at long, long last my packet is in - signed for by the DPS on 2/09. My TR100 would have been invalid after 2/10! :leaving

I had plenty of reasons to delay, but I'm glad things are in order! I'd also like to thank Charles for taking time out of his day to clear up some questions I had several months ago. I worked my rear off for this, and now we'll see if it pans out  .

That doesn't sound all that quick to me considering they have 60 days to issue. They have done a pretty good job of lowering expectations by doing a bad job when people start to feel that 90 days is pretty quick.

Took my CHL class today in Baytown (east Harris County). Instructor said he's only recently (last couple weeks) heard of Harris county turn-arounds of 3 months, down from the ***5 months*** many were experiencing.

That said, his wife is up to month 8 for her CHL renewal to be sent to her. She is something like 3 months past its expiration date, so irony of ironies, she can teach the class but can't carry except in her car.

Question: In the CHL handbook, there were 4 or 5 regional DPS offices. Can paperwork be dropped off at any of those listed locations (one was on West Road in Houston - not too far away, relatively speaking) or is it better to spend the $1 or so and "signature receipt requested" mail it to Austin?

Thanks,
Q
Texas CHL received 07/24/09 and being used daily.

Only problem with your supposition is that the person you're replying to didn't tell you how long it too the guy to SEND the paperwork. We've heard people come in here saying, "I took the class 6 months ago, but just haven't sent in the paperwork...."
