So whats taking so long?

#1

Post by lionswrath79 »

I mailed my stuff in around the end of Nov. and they got it Dec. 1st, what is taking so long as to why my status is still processing application? Did the holidays slow our already slow state govt. down? I know they have my stuff and I got my PIN around Jan. 3 or so? Should I give them a call or will I just get the standard "we have 60 days response" which is has almost been 60 days from Dec. 1st? What do you guys think?

I sent in my packet on 11/18/07. I got my PIN 12/21/07. My license arrived 1/18/08. I wouldn't start worrying quite yet, but a call couldn't hurt.

They have 90 days.

If you are really anxious a phone call won't hurt.

From your timeline, you appear to be about two weeks behind me. The web site showed status change for me on 1-14 and plastic arrived in our mailbox on 1-18.

Unless you have unusual circumstances that might delay your background check, you should be a week or so away.

90 days? Our instructor told us 60 days? I guess I can give them a call, it has been in "processing" for about 3 weeks now and there shouldnt be any unusual circumstances to delay. I have had my background investigated for several jobs I have applied for in the past and nothing has changed since then. When I received my PIN I had trouble logging so I gave them a call, come to find out someone had my birthday wrong and he changed it. Since then I have had no problems logging in, do you guys think that should be something to worry about as far as processing?

Its 90 days. There is an in-depth explanation I posted on the forum, but it is 90 days.

DPS sends an investigator into the county clerks offices where you live/work to do a hands on background. They also query the AGs office, the Texas Student Loan Corporation and Tax Office. It is time consuming; however, sometimes applications can get placed aside. I would not worry under your time frame, but again, a phone call could not hurt.

Well, mailed 12/2, got a PIN 12/27, and guess what?
Just checked the site and finally today (1/23) it says:
Application Completed - license issued or certificate active

Now I am going to be hovering over the dang mailbox. Not sure why I am excited about it. I mean clearly the reality is very boring, much like buying an insurance policy.

Then again, maybe it is just a pleasant diversion...

Then again I take public transit (DART) to work, so maybe the insurance is worth a bit more than I think...

I gave them a call and she said that it looked like my background check was just about finished up and it shouldnt be much longer. Not sure if I believe that, but oh well, what can you do :

:iagree:

They actually have 90 (working) days to get a license out.

The best thing to do is: Make certain all your packet information is complete and correct. Send it with delivery confirmation...so you'll know it got there. Then, FORGET ABOUT IT.

All these folks that go into a tizzy when their license hasn't been issued in a week are worrying themselves for nothing.

I'd hate to work at the DPS processing the packets. They must have at least two full time employees just to respond to all the "Squeaky Wheels".

Most of the SW's will post back a few days later: "Well...I got my CHL today"!
:???:

Be patient folk's. They are working on it. ;-)

Seems like an eternity, took 77 days for mine but was thrilled when I saw the web page status change and a few days later it came in the mail.

Congrats on the new license lionswrath! :hurry:

Remember that they are closed on Saturday and Monday was a holiday, so that may have delayed it a little.
