Not bad so far

Well looks like my application did not sit in the mailroom too long. My check cleared yesterday. Hopefully I get my PIN next Mon or Tue, if not this Friday. Is it true that Travis County is really slow about processing background checks? I hope not, but only time will tell.

I have heard Travis County is slow. I still do not understand why. :?:

There's another thread with more details, but based on my own experience and what I've heard, yes, TC is slow. Florida got me a license in 11 days (including transit time). Texas is past 60. What's the hold up?

Travis County. I guess I could complain to the CHL office since it's been more than 60 days but Florida's license suffices in Texas so I'm not in a big rush.

If you have a vacation to Florida planned their licensing program is great. E-fingerprinting, a much less intrusive application form, minimal training requirements, and very fast. I wish Texas modeled their CHL program a little more closely after Florida's. It's disappointing that I got much better service from another state than I got from Texas. I know there are deficiencies in TCIC/NCIC but making certain applicants wait two months or more because their county stalls on its background checks is unacceptable.

In any case, good luck. Hopefully you'll be the exception.

The initial stuff goes as quickly and smoothly as it does for other counties -- I already had a pin when I dropped it off and within 24 hours it went to "processing application."

Unfortunately, it's been sitting there for about 65 days now. My application should be, by CHL standards, a "dream application." Doesn't matter, Travis is stalling anyway.

Well tommorow will be 6 weeks since I mailed my app. It took 3 weeks to get my PIN after they cashed my check. Does anyone know how often the DPS website is updated? I am trying not to check everyday but its hard. Just hope the holidays don't slow things down any more than normal.

No one in this forum seems to know. Some people have reported that the site was updated over the weekend, which seems odd if DPS personnel do it. Some have received their plastic while the site still said 'Processing application."

They seem to time updates to the website whenever Jupiter is in the third house or whenever Mars goes into retrograde, or whenever the North Star resides in the southern sky...or is it the western sky? I can never remember exactly...just forget I said anything. ;-)

Hey badkarma,
Looks like you didn't have to wait too long. Eight days short of two months is pretty good. I just hope I get mine before Christmas.

I was lucky, dude. From reviewing the current posts to this board, the CHL staff seems to operate a little slower in the fall/winter as opposed to the summer...I'd have thought it would've been the other way 'round, but I guess it ain't. Actually, if you only count the period afterwhich DPS received my completed application, they only took 34 days to get me squared-away. That sort of timing wasn't unheard of during the summer application cycle.

Just hang in there, your plastic will arrive before you know it. Once you've got the "processing application" status message, it should only be a couple two or three more weeks until satisfaction!

Affirmative, dude. Harris county seems to move pretty briskly on background checks. I was also fortunate not to have any issues with fingerprints, photgraphs or missing pages/signatures. I suspect that your plastic will arrive in late December, or early January.

I remember compulsively checking my application about eight times prior to dropping it off at the post office just to be sure that I hadn't forgotten to include/sign anything!

Hard not to check, kept telling myself "dont look" but it finally happened after 73 days (new print cards delayed process), online changed to application completed. Oh happy days, was like Christmas when it changed.
