Morning all from a new member and wanted to drop a line. I am all in with RSD validation email as of 3/7 so I sit and wait like many of you.

I wanted to see if I could provide a little clarity on how this most likely works since there seems to be the thought process that these DPS folks are idiots, overworked and there is no real process. I assure you there may be some of these situations there same as anywhere else but there is more to it. I don't put this out there to irritate anyone but it is very likely the truth.

1. Application volumes have more than tripled since this time last year. This will cause delays as with any business and yes they could plan better and hire more bodies but what state agency does that well?

2. These people or the group as a whole are very likely graded upon METRICS meaning they are required to have X% within the 6 week time frame, x% completed sooner and no more than x% longer than 60 days. So in effect i bet they have 1-2 folks working the backlog apps, 3-4 working current apps and of course these numbers are all depending upon size of the team as a whole. I bet they are meeting their METRICS.

3. In regards to total number of apps, the back log is a VERY small percentage of the overall bucket. If you consider there are probably 50k applications and all these message boards combined is only a few hundred people complaining about a long time frame, you see they aren't doing that bad. I know quite a few folks who have received theirs in the 6 week time frame since early January and later.

4. Texas does more than bounce your information on the FBI database, they do a real background check by calling counties and other entities. These take a little time. If your name is the same or very similar to a criminal, it may take an extra period of time to ensure you aren't "him". Also, if you are not from Texas or been living here awhile it could take some time as well. This seems reasonable to me.

5. Things happen, pieces of applications are lost, misplaced and unfortunately it might happen to you. All we can do is call in, email and see about helping the process work.

All in all, they aren't trying to upset you or anyone personally.

My all in date is one day behind you. I was told yesterday I was approved and sent to printing, but no status change. Good luck.

All great points, but the underlying factor is that they are EXTREMELY uncommunicative and that is the primary source of frustration. They don't answer the phone, they don't respond to emails, and their website is a joke.

I think a real website where we could see our status in the process would reduce frustration levels by 90%.

They've called me at least 3 times since I got my state rep involved. Granted, it was with different stories about the timeline, but they've been communicative...

I understand all this but the fact of the matter to me is that if i can go buy a gun and pass that background check in 5 - 10 mins that should be good enough for anyone , i just dont see the big issue with them trying to verify so much heck it isnt going to stop anyone from doing bad if thats in thier head but i guess they dont think like the rest of us that use our heads to think with instead of other parts of the body.

:iagree:

One would hope that everything is done electronically. In which case a database you can reference with your DL number could the status of your application.
:txflag: I love this place

For some reason, when I try and picture the process in my brain; this is what I imagine.

Does anyone have any knowledge regarding what actually takes place once the application and the required documents are received? Once it goes through the queue what is done when it reaches someone's computer or desk? How long does each step actually take?
