To keep the tears to a minimum, just count 80 calender days from when they received your materials. Then renew your daily check in. Seems DPS is getting the process down to that time frame for most renewals.

Careful with this one, remember you will be calling a Govt. agency.

Sorry, I mean simply inquire on the status of my licensure...also I'd like to know exactly when they rec'd my packet. I work for a government department as well, so I know what its like to deal with person(s) who are unruly off the bat...doesnt get very far, at all. I like to think my verbal judo skills are keen enough for DPS :)

Well i just happened to stumble upon this support group, and i hope this helps me. My name is robert and i live in east texas. I went out and bought a brand new gun a Baby Eagle 9mm that i am just so proud of i consider it part of the family. I went down to the local shooting range to qualify for my CHL. I even payed for my father in law to go qualify with me. I endured the boring class that seemed like common sense and qualified i shot a 246 out of a possible 250. I then filled out my packet got my fingerprints from the local ploice station. Then my pic so forth so on. I done all of this on febuary 23 and mailed everything off on the 25th. My letter with my pin was mailed out on the 20th of March, and i have been checking it everyday 2 times a day and all it says is processing application. Would'nt you think since i mailed them $140 of my hard earned cash that they would get on the ball about sending me my license. As of today it has been 67 long very long days since they sent out that letter and i cant seem to see the light.

forgot to add my father in law recieved his license on friday and he sent his packet in two weeks after i did... happy for him severely angry at the people in austin..
took class: feb 23
mailed everthing in: feb 25
recieved letter with pin: march 20
current status: Application Completed-license issued or certificate active june 6
plastic in hand: june 14

I think I'm screwed. I mailed my completed application packet in on 04/21/08 via certified mail with the US Postal Service. I never received a confirmation of delivery as they said they cannot provide proof of delivery for a P.O. box. I requested a search from the USPS to ascertain that the package was delivered. They cannot tell me if it was or was not. It has been over 30 days now. I have emailed the CHL office to inquire if my application package has been received. I have already paid all the fees as I initiated the process online but when I log into the status website it merely says "Packet Mailed to Applicant". What else can I do? Has anyone else had this problem of the status not reflecting that they had the package and it just wasn't updated this far out????

How did you pay for your license? Is there a way to track back and see if the DPS has cashed the check or if the Money Order was cashed? If so, that means they have your packet. Time lines have been running long (60-90+ days) so you may still be there, just not updated yet. Many folks have had 45+ days before any activity shows up in the system.

I paid online 4/02/08 by credit card when I completed the online application portion. They then mailed me the packet and I took the CHL class and then mailed back the completed packet on 04/21/08. On 04/28/08 Simone answered my email requesting my PIN. I have a valid PIN to log in and check status but nothing online that indicates they have the packet and as I said the USPS cannot tell me if it was delivered!!

I wouldn't let the lack of the update online be an indication of whether they have or have not received your packet due to the long durations that have recently been experienced. I would just try confirming again via email and see if they have it in hand.
