Well I called yesterday afternoon and was updated with you are still processing. But then the news of you are to expect at least another 3-4 week wait. I then emailed my state representative Fred Brown here in Brazos County. I received a reply this morning they will be looking into it.

Just wanted to give an update.

I'm on day 68, but figure I'll wait until my crossbreed gets in before I raise too much of a fuss. No sense getting bent out of shape about the permit when I don't have a decent holster to carry the gun in!

So I get this in an email today:
A letter was sent 4/28/09 regarding missing printed name on the affidavit. You should receive the letter within 7-10 days.

Would that be from my DOC ticket that was dismissed? I made sure to send in any documentation from the courts with my application. Is there anything else on the application that they could mean?

Just got an email back from them, pretty quick turn around on that by the way. The rep says its the No, the CR-87 Eligibility affidavit.

Has anybody else encountered this?

Just updating as it goes.

DOC is Disorderly Conduct. I received a citation for fighting a guy that came into my house and swung first my sophomore of college. It was later dismissed since it was for self defense.

Day 77, Called DPS to check on app and they said the same ol thing "Everything looks ok on your app but we are just waiting on background check" I asked them if the state does the background check or if they send it to the city you live in and he said "we use an outside source to do that" he also said its taking longer for Gulf coast area people to get theirs, I asked him why and he said "it just is". I also asked him what is the average time frame for a person living in the Gulf Coast he said "you'll get when you get it" I then asked him about the 60 days and he said " you will know when you get it when it comes in the mail and that they are allowed to take as much time as they want" I was very polite and i never sounded upset or or mad, I didnt give him any reason to give me smart foot answers yet I still got them. I thanked him for looking into it and left it at that. So its pretty clear they really dont care about the 60 days and if you wait until at least 70 days and call them they dont give a crap. The guy didnt sound busy just annoyed that I woud actually be calling to check on this. Like I paid 250.00 for nothing and have patiently waited to day 77 already and like I was wanting nothing more than to call him and bug him and have him do his job. I cant stand people who hate doing their job and give you an attitude when all you want is some info and its their jod to give you that information. If they dont want to talk to us then they should take that number off when you sign in and put your pin to see where it is. Sorry people I just got a little worked up from that call. I guess I will just go back to hurry up and wait here in the WAITING ROOM. Sorry for any misspelled words , dont feel like spell cheking right now.

Why would a dismissed DOC matter in this case? It was a citation not an arrestable offense and it was deemed to be self defense.

Do you live in Harris County? because if so I should be a day or two behind you...hopefully. But I'm going to guess you are not in Harris. Congratulations anyway :cheers2:

License Issue

#238

Post by justoneguy »

I know I read the forums quite a bit over the past couple of weeks trying to get a feel for when the day would come. For everyone else trying to gauge their status, I checked this morning and my status went from Processing to License Issued:

Class Taken: Feb 14th at Dallas Handgun Academy
Packet Received By DPS: Feb 18th
Processing: March 7th
Licensed Issued: April 29th
Total time to issue: 70 Days from DPS receipt

County of Residence and Work: Collin

DPS just called me in response to my Legislative contacts that I have made over the past week.

A very nice and understanding representative from DPS called and told me that everything on my application has "cleared" and they are simply waiting on a background check from Lubbock County. (I lived in Lubbock County while I attended Texas Tech; Dallas County's background check has already arrived and everything looks fine) She said that she had no idea what was taking Lubbock County so long to return my background check (My Lubbock County background check should be clear except for a speeding ticket I got in 2006 from Lubbock PD, that I took Defensive Driving For, and paid. I even called the City of Lubbock before the application was submitted to make sure that everything looked good, they said that everything was clean)

The representative said that she has contacted Lubbock County in order to get them to "expedite" my background check, and as soon as it comes in, as long as everything is clear, my license will be issued and printed immediately. She said if she got it back this week, I should expect it to be in my hands by Mother's Day at the latest (80 days from application reciept, 58 days from "processing").

I appreciated the kindness of this rep and the way that she calmly and clearly explained why my license has not yet been issued, and said that she was going to take action to try to move things along. I think this rep. should be training some of the other reps that answered the phone when I called, because I honestly would not have been frustrated if everything had been explained to me and they said that action was being taken to fix the issue.

Overall, satisfied with the response from DPS (for now), hopefully what she said is true.
