JL, it could also be an issue with the way the prints were taken. In my particular class, the CHL instructor took prinits on his own ink equipment for anyone who didn't already have them while walking us through the paperwork process. I thought they looked fine (no smears, etc.) but then I have no knowledge what constitutes a good set of fingerprints.
That being said, I'm glad you and your classmates didn't have any issues. However, going forward, I would still recommend the electronic prints over ink if you have the choice.
