Re: May Applications
Hey everyone. This my first post here but I've been reading here for a while. I'm getting a little frustrated at the wait time, as I'm seeing a lot of people that mailed theirs off around the same time I did, that already have theirs back.
Mailed 5/3
Received 5/9
Posted online status 6/3
Background still under review 7/5
Just called and asked what was going on, I was told the were in the final stages of the background check and hopefully next week it will update. He said it takes up to 60 days for an initial which I understand, but 60 days is up on Tuesday. I know there are thousands of applications they have to review, but you would think they could streamline this a bit better. Oh well, at least I didn't have to pay for it.

Re: May Applications
5-18 online renewal, 5-10 renewal class, 5-13 mailed to DPS, 6-12 emailed DPS for status update (website was still showing waiting on paperwork), 6-28 called DPS, 7-8 status still not updated - emailed DPS and attached scanned CHL-100 and copy of email with barcode. We are now 30 days from the expiration of my CHL and no status update from DPS. When I called them, their response was "wait a couple of more weeks". This renewal process has been longer than it took to get my original CHL.

Re: May Applications
Here is my chronology for an Initial CHL filed by paper application in May:
5/10- mailed paper application with all docs EXCEPT fingerprints and CHL-100 certificate
6/2- received response from DPS indicating application incomplete and requesting CHL-100 certificate
6/5- received response from DPS indicating fingerprints incomplete and need to schedule digital fingerprint submission
6/8- had fingerprints taken and received paper FAST form
6/9 -took Initial CHL class and received CHL-100 form
6/10- mailed CHL-100 and FAST form to DPS to complete package
6/25- received Texas CHL in US Mail
Overall, pretty easy process compared to prior state's CCW (CHL) application process. Reasonably fast turnaround considering incomplete, partial application package submitted in various stages.
