I am seriously irritated at this point :banghead: ! After reading this I once again contacted the DPS and was told they are STILL waiting for my background check, WTH :headscratch !!!!!!!!!!!!! It has been 8 week's now that the DPS has been waiting for my background info which is totally un-acceptable imho, I have NO background!!!! I called the governor's office directly, they pulled up my previous correspondence and had all my info, and I voiced my displeasure and also let them know of the total lack of communication I have recieved from the DPS and the rep handling my application.

The rep verified my phonenumber and said she would forward my complaint to the DPS, yah right how much will that HELP!! :grumble

Woohoo.... how appropriate on Patriot Day.... Application Completed - license issued or certificate active

Still waiting on the wife's, they didn't like her fingerprints so we had to get them redone last weekend and sent them in on Monday.

There is none because if you have read other post you can see that other member's have plastic inhand already and they were anywhere from 2-6 week's behind myself and other's. :mad5

Congrat's on the plastic bro! :cheers2:
My next comment is only due to my complete and utter dismay/frustration with the entire process as it is a JOKE :grumble: !! The DPS is a totall joke aswell as my local state rep and the gov's office, they should be ashamed of themselve's! They want our vote but offer nothing in return not even a simple phonecall or email ? :mad5

Juat got a call from Maryanne at the DPS. She said my CHL has been approved and to wait 7-10 days for the card to be delivered. Woohoo! I really hope she is not blowing smoke. I guess my prediction was pretty spot on! Well that's only if they do deliver it, right?

Not sure where I posted this before about it being the county you live in but I was right. The DPS is STILL waiting for my 'criminal' background check from Harris County, almost 10 week's now!!! I actually recieved a voicemail today from my rep, after almost one month and only AFTER speaking with their supervisor, and her explanation was that it is due to Harris County being so backlogged for the last 4 week's, they have had my app for over 3 months now?

EDIT: I forgot to add that I asked the rep I spoke with this question. 'Why is it that the DPS is awaiting my 'criminal background' check when I supplied a notarized document/disposition of that with my application, I thought that was proof enough? I spend $25 and 8hr's of my time going downtown to get this document to offer PROOF, as requested, that I have no criminal background and so why I'm still waiting'?

Harris county is taking forever. I sent my application off on 6/16 and still processing. I called them and they told me that Harris county is a large county and they are behind. She also said that the hurricane has delayed them even more. Go figure.

FYI, for those with friends who are about to send in an application, be sure to use ELECTRONIC FINGERPRINTING. I got a letter last month stating that the prints needed to be redone. Enclosed in the packet was information about FAST, an electronic form of fingerprinting, along with a website and instructions. It never said that this was the ONLY acceptable form of fingerprinting but just as I was about to get ink prints done at the local PD, I decided to play it safe and call DPS to be sure. Turns out that although not specifically stated, they will ONLY ACCEPT ELECTRONIC PRINTS. I called my CHL class instructor to let him know what happened and he stated I was the 4th person that he knew of to have this happen. Therefore, my advice is this: DO NOT SUBMIT INK PRINTS.

Oh, and yes... STILL WAITING for news. As of today, the DPS site continues to say "Processing Application".

06/28/08 - Class taken
06/29/08 - Qualified
06/30/08 - Packet Mailed
07/02/08 - Return receipt received
07/17/08 - Emailed details to request PIN.
07/18/08 - Advised I'm still not entered in system and will receive a letter with PIN once it's entered.
08/08/08 - PIN letter received
08/15/08 – Received letter from DPS requesting new fingerprints
08/18/08 – Electronic prints mailed to DPS
08/22/08 - Received Return Receipt confirmation that new prints were received by DPS
09/22/08 - "PROCESSING APPLICATION" (Grrrrrr!!!)

I disagree with this. EVERYBODY in my CHL class submitted ink prints, and to my knowledge not a single person has been rejected. Out of 22 persons in the class,I know of 4 that already have their license in hand.
