Grumble, welcome home to Texas! :txflag:

I actually bought my XD9SC from The Bullet Trap, but I have never shot there. Normally go to the Winchester range in FW, and occasionally to DFW Gun Range.
grumble wrote:I typically shoot at The Bullet Trap in Plano. For members, it's a reasonable $7.99/day range fee. Non-members is significantly higher. Worth it for me to be a member, definitely at $100/year.

I've also heard that Bass Pro Shops north of DFW airport has a decent range, but have never been there. I've only been back in Texas for a month after an 18 year hiatus in New Jersey. Sure is good to be home. :txflag:

brewdawg wrote:I hope so as well. Still have not received my PIN number so I don't know what my status us yet. Where do you shoot in the Allen area. My wife and I are looking at moving to eh Plano/Frisco/McKinney area in a few months.
grumble wrote:Sounds like you and I are in exactly the same boat. :cheers2: Here's to hoping we have plastic in hand before the end of the month!

Welcome to the forum Douge & John112709! Glad to have you with us! :clapping:

Grumble, the range at Bass Pro is in the basement below the gun section. It's really nice, but it costs $10.00/hour...to rich for my blood. :???:

I'm in Frisco and I shoot at The Bullet Trap occasionally. I've bought and sold several guns there and have been impressed with their professionalism. On the occasions where I've used their range they have always had an employee around enforcing safety procedures and just keeping and eye on things, but they don't seem to be heavy-handed at all. It's a very nice place to shoot.

The downside is the expense. According to their website Non-members pay $18.99 per person (I thought I paid $16 a few weeks ago though). If there are no waiting lines you can shoot as long as you want but if there are lines they can limit your time to around an hour. You can get an annual membership for $110 which will pay off if you're planning on shooting there more than once a month or so.

I haven't tried the range at the Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine but hope to in the next week or so.

I may have to go try out the range at Bass Pro, and want to check out Elm Fork on NW Hwy when it warms up a little. It is just a couple of blocks from the office.

Emailed DPS and got my PIN and after checking my status it is in the 'Processing' stage. Hopefully mine won't take too long, but birth outside of the U.S. (Army Base), several jobs over the last 5 years (Gotta love the IT industry and contract work), and several residences (Lubbock, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties) may extend mine.

Just received my plastic in the mail today.

Took class Sat., 5 Dec 2009
Mailed off packet (express) Mon., 7 Dec 2009
Received plastic Tues, 12 January 2010

I was prepared for "up to 4 months" as was told to me after my class.

So, for taking barely over a month, I am quite pleased.

[Repeated from the "Waiting Room" thread:]

Sitting in my chair, getting over the flu, glance at the (permanently open) Texas DPS tab a few minutes ago:

Application Completed - license issued or certificate active

:clapping:

Almost makes the flu worthwhile!!

DynaBlue is miffed; she always figured we'd get them at the same time, but hers is still "Processing." I suspect my FBI report was fairly quick (those every-five-year reviews are evidently good for something!).

:waiting: :greenfrown:
May be awfully quiet around here for a day or two (or hours, I dearly hope)....
Life is for learning.

Hello everyone. Got approved in a reasonable amount time despite being an immigrant. Naturalized in 1973, which may have helped. I was prepared for months of waiting. :txflag:

For carry right now: S&W 642
For bumps in the night: Beretta 92FS
Looking at .380 for summer carry but ammo hard to find.

I think I'm gonna skip Wally World because in winter its so easy. I mean you could haul a SBS and a long barrel 44 in there and nobody would notice....

Thank you Charles for having the best forum around!
