I submitted my paperwork and supporting docs on 12/7. I was out of town the following week so I did not get finger prints done until 12/12.

Today I got a letter in the mail dated 12/10 that stated that they had no received my prints (which at that point they had not). I took this as an opportunity to call to ensure they received the prints. The nice lady :tiphat: I spoke with said that they had received them this morning and that the background check was underway. She said that it would be about 60 days!! - I hope that is just a canned response based on the maximum allowed time because others are getting theirs much faster! :rules:

12/6 class
12/6 submitted CHL-100 online
12/8 confirmation of documents received
12/15 called DPS to verify they had everything and was told they got it last week and started processing, should have it within 60 days

Now the waiting ........................

@jeremy. It never changed. Every time i checked the website and entered my DL# & DOB it just went to the same screen saying please allow sufficent time ect....The more that i think about it i realize that they never sent an email showing they received my chl-100 and barcode. The only email i received was immediately after i submitted my onli.ne application

My status didn't update on the site either, and my license randomly showed up on the 17th. Site still says the "please allow time" statement.

There is a definite issue with the website right now - I am trying to log in (have been off and on for the last few hours) since I haven't checked status today and can't get in. Maybe they are doing maintenance - who knows! :smash:

12/15 Called DPS and was informed they don't have my CHL-100 (despite the e-mail receipt on 12/3). Uploaded it again.

Update: Called DPS to confirm receipt of CHL-100 and that it was the only outstanding need. File is complete and has been forwarded to processing.
12/19 Called DPS, spoke with the nicest lady yet (maybe because it's early on a Friday), and was informed my license has been sent to printing and should arrive within a week. :txflag:

12/20 Status update on website

New to this excellent forum; kudos to everyone for informative, interesting, and (often) entertaining posts.
Here's my timeline also referred to as my "exercise in patience" by my better 90%:

11/25: submitted on-line application
12/1: fingerprints
12/6: CHL course (Great job by the instructor and staff at Eagle Gun Range/Lewisville)
12/8: confirmation email of supporting documents
TBD: plastic in hand :waiting:

Safe and merry Christmas to all--

1/07 UPDATE: Called DPS to check on status; was told "there was some sort of glitch regarding your background check" and that "the file is being processed".

In my best "adult ego state of mind", I calmly requested clarification since I've had no issues whatsoever in my background or any 'glitches' ever appear in other background checks, including 2 within the past 60 days. The DPS representative explained that apparently one of their "data entry technicians had mistakenly indicated my application included "self reported" arrests during the last 10 years. Instead of entering "N" in the internal form, the technician must have, in error, entered "Y" in the block".

As a result, the trooper working my file began a search for more information regarding a "self-reported arrest" that I never had or ever reported. After not finding a record of any previous arrest, the officer (I'm assuming) double-checked my original application and discovered the discrepancy.

What next and how do I proceed? I was told to "just keep doing what you're doing, check the status for updates; everything is good and we have everything we need to process your file". Hmmm...okay, the exercise in patience will continue.

Lessons learned: (1) Mr. Murphy is still alive and lives nearby...lol...(2) Fat-fingers can strike anywhere, anytime. (3) "Trust but verify"--President Ronald Reagan;
New year's best to all of you!

The processing times are so random its amazing. I've had Government jobs my whole adult life, and my background checks usually come back pretty quickly, but looks like this time around i'll be waiting.. hope i'm not one of those 60 day folks.. :-)
