Processing time

I'm seeing more and more posts about how quickly the applications are being processed. Some of them are in 18 to 30 day range while others still seem to be taking the typical 45+ days. I am wondering if the difference may be attributable to those that are completing their applications online and those that are doing it via mail. If this is the difference, it may be worthwhile to make sure to do it electronically.

18 day from filing to the card being in my hand.
I filed electronically and got fingerprinted about 4 days later. I scanned by CHL Class completion form and submitted it through the DPS "contact us" site (it has a section in the dropdown for submitting CHL documentation).
Also, I'm not sure if it helped or not - but I had one arrest over a decade ago - I called the County and got the case # so I could include it in the comments section hoping it would cut down on searching.

A smidge over 60 days (I was traveling when card arrived so no exact count ).

Did everything the same as AustinCHL (electronic all the way, took first fingerprint appointment available after submitting app, scanned docs and uploaded via contact us) but I have never been arrested.

Never talked to anyone at DPS either...tried calling a few times but got the "we are too busy" messages.

I did everything online and got mine 19 days after submitting all my documents.

I've also lived/worked at the same places for 10+ years, have a clean record and a not-so-common name, so those factors couldn't hurt either.

Stands to reason that online applications will always go through quicker, though.

I'm not sure it matters. My co-worker, who is also on this forum jason79tx, mailed in all his paperwork last month and got his 19 days mailbox to mailbox. Mine was 56 days about a year and half ago. I don't know why some are quicker than others. Been trying to figure that out for a couple of years now.

Talked with my State Rep Office today and they said that they would call and they said, " A phone call from us and it will be shaken loose!" Said that the DPS has out sourced the chl process to a third party contractor and that they were not happy with the service they were receiving.

I registered online a few weeks before class and got finger printed a few days before class. Took my class 7/12 and mailed packet following monday. Received license on 7/30.

My husband had to take the long class 2 years ago and waited 3 mo. He felt jipped. :)

Based on what a couple of others have recently experienced, I'm guessing I'm less
than two weeks from receiving the plastic (...time will tell).

20 June filled out the CHL online application
24 June did the (FAST) electronic finger prints
5 July took the CHL class and snail mailed the forms (late on a Saturday afternoon)
(this included the CHL-100, the Checklist w/barcode, DD-214 & fingeprint verification
receipt...I know the last item wasn't required but threw it in anyway)
DPS Website Status Change: 5 August
(Update) And received my 'plastic' in the mail: 8 August (basically a month after the last paperwork sent)


Of course some are receiving theirs much sooner....I've seen postings stating anywhere
from 16 days to 20 days, mail box to mail box. (Those folks must be livin' right!).

Wow(!) you got GREAT turn around time!

Trying to get my wife interested in getting her CHL. She goes and shoots with me
every now-and-then but so far not so much interest in getting her license.

Just got the status change today to change address, report lost or stolen license. 6 working days from the time I submitted all paperwork (7/29)

123 days for me, start to finish. Atypical, but others have taken longer.
