Re: February 2014 Applications
Took the CHL Class in November 2013 because the prick of an ex-chief of Police of mine would not acknowledge the Federal Law (HB 218) that grants honorably retired Law Enforcement Officers the right to carry if they completed at least 10 years of Sworn service and maintain their profficiency. The Fed law trumps State of Texas law that requires 15 - I had more than 10 and less than 15.
For whatever reasons, I could not get the papers together (inc. my DD214) until Feb. 2014 when they were faxed and I received an acknowledgment a week later that they were received.
On March 06, I received an email saying that the fingerprint people screwed-up my prints. Had them re-done, then they were sent off, and a week later, I started seeing the "Waiting on Documents" update when I logged-in to the CHL site. That's what I still get even up to 15 minutes before I made this - my first post - on this forum.
I called yesterday - finally got through to a very nice lady, and she told me that they were just waiting on one more document and that it could take "up to 90 days" just to have the documents "attach" to my electronic application. So, I'm almost to the 90 days - almost 30 days past the time it was supposed to take for the application - receipt process.
Funny thing is - I've lived in the same county for almost 35 years now, I've had numerous FBI checks, and I've been in Law Enforcement and Security Management for over 25 years now - and over 15 years of that I was licensed and certified by the State of Texas to carry firearms. Something is very wrong with the system.

Re: February 2014 Applications
It is May the 11th 2014 and it has been 10 days since I did my whole thing by email and not a change on the status yet. I know there have been those that have waited days and those that have waited months so I know there is no set time frame but I was told by the people that handle this that I should submit it by email to get things going faster but I have seen no evidence to support that at all. I have no bad background and I was fingerprinted two days after my CHL class which I passed without missing a single question and I shot perfectly. I am not worried at all about the background check because there is nothing negative to find. I just wish this was a faster more efficient process. I can't take my gun on vacation because I know it will not be here by the time I leave and I am going through states that require my CHL to even have the gun loaded in the SUV next to me in the box or on me for that matter. I will be forced to leave it in the safe and locked away. I have a house sitter and a very well trained watch dog that is about 125lbs but I still would have liked taking my weapon with me. I too was told they had hired temps to catch up on the back log and I was really hoping that it would make a big difference but everyone that I have spoke to face to face in my area says that expect a 3 month wait and that is pure agony. I check the site every day just to see if they have started the process but it never changes and the status remains the same. This is the pits people.

Re: February 2014 Applications
Welcome to the forum. I'm sure the people who applied in Feb that are still waiting are grinning a little at your first post. I know the wait is frustrating but this too shall pass.DavidMSelf wrote: It is May the 11th 2014 and it has been 10 days since I did my whole thing by email and not a change on the status yet. Re: February 2014 Applications
DavidMSelf, it won't probably change for around 40 days or more from your upload date. Oh, and welcome!
