Just out of curiosity, did any of y'all that have completed your background checks have anything you thought might slow it down or hold it up? If so, do yo mind sharing? I had a little bump in the early 80's. Nothing serious, but I had to disclose to keep from being denied for not disclosing.

AFAIK as long as it wasn't a felony and wasn't in the last 10 years you should be good.

09/21/13 CHL Class
01/26/14 Online Application
02/07/14 Fingerprinted & mailed paperwork
02/08/14 Confirmation of delivery
03/21/14 Website updated; background check pending
03/22/14 License manufacturing
03/25/14 Mailed

Now the wait to receive the plastic. I'll holler when it finally shows up in the mailbox. I'm amused that I'll get mine before my husbands' - he hasn't even started the paperwork yet (we took the CHL class together).
3/27/14 Plastic received today! I expected a longer wait due to my location. And they do use your current DL picture.

The only part I did online was the application. I mailed everything else in because I didn't realize the paperwork could be submitted online.
so how long did it take for you
nevermind I looked at the timeline on your earlier post and I guess mine is still sitting on someones desk
41 or 42 days - I didn't look at the site the day before, so it could have updated then. Hopefully yours will get off someone's desk and into the mix soon. The wait times between people are crazy, IMO.
you were spot on BSL I checked this morning which is day 43 and site finally updated from "waiting on required materials" to "manufactured pending" so evidentally it wasn't on someones desk but being processed so they must not update site as you progress

So this past Wednesday, I received a status change update

Emailed CHL Packed: 2/25/2014

Here's where I'm at:
____________________________________________________________________
Application : Received
Fingerprints : Complete
Affidavits : Received
DL or ID : Valid
Citizenship : No documentation required
Passport photo holder : Under review
Photo : Received
Proof of Classroom training : Not received, notice sent to applicant
Proof of Proficiency training : Not received, notice sent to applicant
Proof of Special Condition : Not received, notice sent to applicant
Fee : Received
Background Check : Under review
Concealed Handgun License : Print pending completion of application review
____________________________________________________________________

I Emailed all 9PDF pages for my application on 2/25/2014. For whatever reason they said they never revived my 3029 (Military Weapon proficiency) LES, and Special Condition: Military ID.

I called DPS - RSD yesterday and after a 1 hour hold, I spoke to two people, the second person who answered the phone seemed like she didn't want to be on the phone for very long and her immediate response was "we are working on Feb 1st - Feb 14 right now", and I explained to her, I just spoke to a gentleman and the reason he transferred me to you is because they have worked on my packet, and this is time sensitive as I'm getting deployed soon, long story short after she knew I was on the phone with someone else and I was transferred for a specific reason, she gave me her work email, so I could email her the documents directly, as it IS a time sensitive issue for me. Over 24 hours later with a direct email of "missing documents" still no update. I just really hope I can get a solid answer/ verification that it has been sent, before I get deployed.

Hope this information helps.

*Side Question*—— a passport isn't required is it?! Nothing on the CHL Application packet/ Military side of things say they NEED a passport, this I didn't submit any passport info.

Respectfully,
Nate

Thanks Paul, I appreciate that!:) means a lot especially coming from a fellow Texan. I will always be a Texan know matter where the Military takes me, and I'll end up back home in Montgomery, when I retire from the Military! Texans are so gracious to their service members, no other state/country can compare.

trashysquid wrote:New cat with first post here. In "purgatory" with the rest of us who applied in February (and earlier):

Initial application: 3 Feb 14
Documents submitted online: 10 Feb 14

I also called Friday, 7 March for my 30-day status update, and the lady I spoke with said "they were still going through January's applications," so take that for what it's worth.
This came up overnight:

Application : Received
Fingerprints : Complete
Affidavits : Received
DL or ID : Valid
Citizenship : No documentation required
Passport photo holder : Received
Photo : Received
Proof of Classroom training : Received
Proof of Proficiency training : Received
Proof of Special Condition : Received
Fee : Received
Background Check : Under review
Concealed Handgun License : Print pending completion of application review

So this system does update overnight because I checked around 730pm or so yesterday. 40 days from DPS receipt of materials to background review....should be soon now.
I've been under review for my background check since last Friday, and was wondering what the hold up for me is since most other February applicants seem to have gotten theirs completed in a day or two. I have a clean record (save for a ticket for doing a California Stop at a stop sign), been in the same house for the last five years, and recently passed an instant background check when purchasing a handgun within the last two weeks....should I be concerned?

Submitted everything on line 2/24

First update was to man pending, never showed background under review. That was on 3/24. Changed to mailed on 3/25. Haven't received it yet
