Brucesw2, I also received the same email on jan 14th! Hopefully we're up next! Looks like several people here that submitted around 11/15 are beginning to receive updates. I can hardly stand the wait!

Re: medical board reviewing my CHL AFTER notification

#154

Post by Bumblebee63 »

Never having been diagnosed as having a mental illness or disorder, nor ever being court ordered to be committed to a mental hospital for treatment. Yet, one instance of being placed into protective custody after accidemtal GSW the probate court judge extended the emergency 72 hour psych eval/observation OPC to a full 14 day observation, but not commitment to the mental hospital. The official discharge of the psychiatrist states no mental illness, no need for hospitalization, and no danger to himself or others. Is this considered disqualifying history, even though never diagnosed with mental illness, never commited, only observation. The part that is tricky is this was not a court ordered commitment, only protective custody observation and all this being a result of accidental self inflicted GSW wrongfullly believed / assessed by investigators to be suicide attempt. CHL was issued before this occured, and now is being reviewed by the medical board per request of the dps. It's been a while since placed under review and I'm curious as to what is my best next move. Should I wait till they give me a ruling? If so, do I retain an attorney, do I contest the Probate courts 14 day observation. Also, if while waiting for a ruling from the medical review board my address changes but I don't update my drivers license address, should I update my CHL address/in turn pay the fee and request a new updated license / with new address even while waiting for their ruling?? Or would this possibly indicate to the DPS or Medical board any flag and cause more scrutiny? Any advice, or direction to what laws, what lawyers, and what might be best to proceed would be appreciated. Thanks.

TeXaS SoB, I would call them and check the status. I called this morning and they told me my background check was complete. They were just waiting on the investigator to release the application so that they could mail it .

Called them after about 15 minutes talked to a nice lady. Said fingerprints were good. But was being assigned to a tech for my background. Said that could take another 2-3 weeks to update and if they needed anything they would send me a letter. Only thing I can think of is I had a dwi back in 05 but it's been disposed and I put all that info on my app.

Well I called today as its been 72 days since they received it and still no update. I was told, "yes we have all of your paperwork but its going to be another 45 to 60 days until you get it in the mail" I also asked about status updates, she said " it will get updated when we have time to". So the wait continues.........

wdknox wrote:I have been stalking this sight since shortly after I applied for my CHL and I really appreciated everyone updating there status. It gave me hope that I would actually get some kind of update soon. And low and behold it happened. I thought it would only be fitting for me to post my status so that maybe it will give someone else hope that the waiting will eventually end.

Online application 11/17/13
Fingerprints 11/22/13
CHL class 11/23/13
Online submission of documents 11/24/13
The submission of documents was on a Sunday and for some reason I didn't feel good about it. On Monday 11/25/13 I call and after holding for about 30 minutes I talked to a lady that was very helpful. They did not have the forms that I email the day before, so while she had me on the line she had me resubmit my documents and she verified that my documents came through on their email system.

That said today 1/21/14 I received an update

Everything was good and no more documents required

Background Check : Under review
Concealed Handgun License : Print pending completion of application review

So for those of you still waiting there is hope
Good Luck!!!

Update today 1/22/14

Background Check : Completed
Concealed Handgun License : Manufacturing Pending

I didn't expect to see any change today, but checking my status daily has turned into my regular routine. And one day later the background check was complete. :cheers2:
Update 1/23/14

Background Check : Completed
Concealed Handgun License : Mailed

So it is finally in the mail.
I must say I am really surprised I didn't expect everything to happen as fast as it did after I received the first update. When it arrives in the mail I will post again to let y'all know how long that takes. ;-)
Congrats. Won't be long now.

Do they check your federal taxes as well as your state taxes ? As part of the background check ?
