Background check: Complete
CHL: Manufacturing Pending
That was pretty quick!

My VA CHP is valid in TX until it's expiration (summer 2017) under a reciprocity agreement, but I figured I'd rather get a local license to avoid any misunderstandings.

Here is my timeline:
- 07/20/13 - Completed online application
- 07/24/13 - Fingerprints
- 07/26/13 - CHL class
- 07/26/13 - Mailed out documents - Wait begins
- 07/29/13 - Mail package received per USPS tracking system
- 08/06/13 - Application received per DPS system, Background check under review
- 08/14/13 - Background check complete, manufacturing pending

We'll see how long this takes - it looks like processing times vary greatly. My background is chrystal clear - not even a parking ticket - and I have a current VA CHP so you'd think it should be reasonably quick. But then I'm a Naturalized Citizen and was born and raised in the former Soviet Union, so it may delay things a bit...with me being an ex-commie and all...

Mailed mine on August 5th. Yesterday was pending background check. Woke up today and background check is now good. 1 day background check was all they needed for me. Just waiting for them to print and mail. I may have lucked out and got one of the fastest turnaround times. :anamatedbanana

I applied online on July 22. Placed materials into mail on July 25. Status changed to material received on August 13 (day 19 from mailing of materials). Status went to Manufacture on August 14 (day 20) and went to license mailed on August 15 (day 21). Normal post from Austin will be 2-3 days, so total turn=around for me is about 23 days from the day I mailed my materials. This is MUCH faster than a friend of mine, who mailed his in April and it took close to 60 days. Kudos to State of Texas for making huge improvement in this process!

Manufacture Pending for me as well. I will cheers to that!

Submitted on August 4th so this whole process was much quicker that I could have imagined. I was hoping I would have my plastic in hand prior to my B-Day at the end of September.

From what I've seen, we should have plastic in hand in a week or so. We'll be among the faster turnaround times. I think it got slow for DPS as there will be a rush in September with the new rules kicking in. We probably picked a good time. :thumbs2:

Great point on the turnaround attributed to the new rules coming up this Sept. All I care is we're getting it faster... :cheers2:

I got my CHL on Tuesday. Curious why the DPS site still shows "Received" for application and it is highlighted yellow, while everything else is green? Does that status or color ever change?
