Time to plan up for my Wally Walk.
Congrats! Btw... I just noticed you have been a forum member for a couple years, just wondering why you waited so long to get your CHL? Not judging, just wondering.
Funny enough I have been wondering the same thing. A senior member in the same "class" as a bunch of newbies!!

CONGRATS by the way!!

Thank you folks.

I'm a fairly recent transplant to Texas from California where carrying is not at all common. I knew before moving that Texas had shall issue CHL however I wasn't exactly jumping to get one because it wasn't in my thought process. I've always been around guns and pro-gun but the idea of actually carrying a gun felt a little funny to me probably because I was unfamiliar with the concept as a whole.

I found this forum a few years ago and started reading and then started posting once I realized how wonderful the regulars are here. My attitude about the defensive mindset and preparation evolved to where I decided I wanted to get my CHL but it always was one thing or another that precluded me from getting it. I finally made it a priority this year and am got the training and application done.

This is one of my favorite gun forums and the only one I regularly post on because it is so unlike most other gun forums in the attitude of the membership. Now I can finally say I'm a fellow CHLer once my plastic arrives. This is probably some kind of record from date I first joined this forum to when I will have plastic in hand.

I think I can finally, safely lay claim to being a Texan. :txflag:

The mail lady loves me!!! :hurry: :clapping:

I opened the mailbox and there was a lone envelope from the state.... Within that envelope was a card... And on that card was concealed handgun license.... With my name on it!

I am off for my Wally walk!!! :woohoo :anamatedbanana

Won't be long for the rest of y'all....

Sadly no nachos at Wally world.. I skipped eating at mcdonalds... I did stop in for a drink.. I took a pic of the empty ammo shelfs lol... I even stopped by academy to check out pistols on the way home.

My application processed quickly I believe.

5/05/13 Completed Texas Online Application
5/11/13 Took CHL Class
5/14/13 Fingerprints Taken
5/14/13 Mailed Application Packet from post office
6/04/13 First DPS System status
6/04/13 Background Check started
6/07/13 Purchased M&Pc 9mm
6/12/13 Background check completed
6/12/13 Manufacture pending
6/13/13 Manufacturing
6/14/13 Mailed (postmarked 6/17/13)
6/19/13 Received, In Hand

I trained at the range last night then I did the traditional Wally Walk. I felt good but it was unusual having a weapon on me in public. I was we'll concealed by my shirt and I'm sure the shopping cart helps with concealment. My wife should have her license by the end of July. I do feel better about my ability to protect my family if a bad situation happens.

Maybe we ought to augment the Wally Walk to accommodate the times we're in. Instead of buying ammo, gaze at the ammo shelves, find a clerk and ask if they have any and then go to Academy and look at guns that you can't find ammo for. I think you're on to something!

Received license June 20.

I'm not gonna count May 24 cause it was emailed probably after hours. So, 26 days.

Finally my status changed!

I checked on it 3 times yesterday, at 8am, 2pm and 7pm. The status was "waiting on docs" all three times. This morning I logged in at 7:40am and saw this.

Application : Received
Fingerprints : Complete
Affidavits : Received
DL or ID : Valid
Citizenship : No documentation required
Passport photo holder : Received
Photo : Received
Proof of Classroom training : Received
Proof of Proficiency training : Received
Fee : Received
Background Check : Completed
Concealed Handgun License : Manufacturing Pending

So, between the comment made by the lady at DPS and this, I think it supports my theory that they are working on some applications without updating the site regularly. This is the first change in my status and it's straight to "Manufacturing Pending". Here's hoping for "Mailed" later today or tomorrow. :anamatedbanana
