New To Texas

#1

Post by tentex »

Wife and I moved here from Tennessee in March, we have been coming to Canyon Lake for over 15 years and made the decision that when we retired we would move here (her sister lives in Cedar Park). We winter in Rockport from Oct. to March and this year made the decision to not return to Tennessee and moved to Canyon Lake. We are in the process of finding a permenant home here but living in our RV until we find the right one. I have had a Tennessee CHL since the late 80's and I have since moving here gotten the DL, and have taken the class here. I have sent in all my paperwork along with getting the fingerprints. My question is how long is it before they start posting status on the web? Also just a comment on the open carry bill that is going throug now, we had open or concealed carry in Tennessee and I have watched as a lot of people were carring open. A lot of them were stopped and detained just to see their permit. Some even had the badge that said concealed permit holder. I like the element of surprise. Any advice that you can give is appreciated.

Welcome!

My packet was delivered on 2/28 and I got my first status update on 4/11.
I did the online application and mailed my class forms. I understand that the paper applications are taking a bit longer to enter. Hope this helps!

What part of Tennessee did you move from?

Thanks for the replies. We lived in Harrison Tn. about 10 miles north of Chattanooga. Born and raised there. To use an old saying " We weren't born here but we got here just as fast and we could" :cheers2:

Welcome to the forum an to Texas! :cheers2:

The whole CHL process I currently averaging (nearly) 60 days. The computer updates are not the DPS's top priority.
