Am I the only one who sent my forms (fingerprints included) 1st class mail & NOT registered mail? Sent approx. 2 weeks ago & no indication that they even received it. Is this normal?
Thanks

I'm going to say right now....yes, this is normal. It seems that even the first update is taking much longer due to the large increase in applications. I'm sure someone with a little more accurate info on tighter time frames will chime in soon...and welcome to The Forum, popgun!

I see it is your firstpost, so WELCOME!
Why did you send fingerprints in via mail? I didn't know actual fingerprint cards were still acceptable, I thought all fingerprinting is electronic now.

Upon further reading, I came across this DPS website: http://www.dps.texas.gov/RSD/CHL/Licens ... ntInfo.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Code: Select all
Effective March 1, 2011 all fingerprints must be submitted through Electronic Fingerprint Submission using MorphoTrust USA (formerly L-1 Identity Solutions). See Administrative Rule §6.12

Re: App. sent registered mail?
Welcome popgun. Did you send fingerprint cards or a receipt for the electronic prints?
In any case, you're not the only one to send paperwork by standard mail. Some people use registered mail and it's cheap for the peace of mind if they're the type to worry. I think it doesn't make any real difference. If the application gets lost, we have to send replacements, no matter if it's DPS or USPS who lost the paperwork.
When friends or coworkers apply, I tell them don't check the website for a month. There may be an update sooner. If they're really lucky they might get their plastic before then. But for most people it just seems to cause stress. And checking the website doesn't make it faster.
Check after a month. Three weeks if you're impatient. Once you see they have all the paperwork, find something to pass the time and be pleasantly surprised when the card shows up in your mailbox.
I know. Easier said than done.

I sent the receipt for the prints, not actual prints. I said that wrong. Just glad to hear that not sending it registered mail isn't a problem. (unless of course it never shows up) But, I do have copies of everything.
Thanks for the welcomes!

Re: App. sent registered mail?
Okay, great. It should get there just fine. It will take DPS about 20-25 days for any changes to show up online so don't worry if it doesn't show received. If you have 6 minutes that you can waste, have a look at this. It'll give you an idea of what to expect: viewtopic.php?f=83&t=63753&p=782221#p782221" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;popgun wrote:I sent the receipt for the prints, not actual prints.
