I guess that I should have been paying more attention to all the dates. Here's what I know so far:

3/31/2011 Original application:
4/14/2011 CHL Class
4/15/2011 Complete package submitted to DPS
5/09/2011 Status change to "received/under review"

I think the website app is broken, because I seem to be stuck in this status for what seems an eternity:

Application : Received
Fingerprints : Complete
Affidavits : Received
DL or ID : Valid
Citizenship : No documentation required
Passport photo holder : Received
Photo : Received
Proof of Classroom training : Received
Proof of Proficiency training : Received
Fee : Received
Background Check : Under review
Concealed Handgun License : Print pending completion of application review

Oh well...I have lots of guns to start carrying once the license arrives.
3/31/2011 Application submitted
4/14/2011 CHL Class
4/15/2011 Package submitted.
5/09/2011 Received/under review
5/20/2011 Manufacturing pending
5/21/2011 Manufacturing
5/24/2011 Mailed
5/26/2011 Plastic Day

Hi All,
I think I'm going to block the Texas DPS CHL web site on my computer so I can't keep checking my on-line status every ten minutes!

CobraRon said it all when he posted the following:
CobraRon wrote: 5/13 Driver's license number memorized
I've had my Texas Driver License for 40 years since 1971 and I've never known my driver's license number before I started looking up my Texas CHL status on the DPS web site. When ever I needed to use my Texas driver's license number before, I always had to pull out my driver's license to get the number. So if there's any positive take away from waiting for my CHL and checking the status multiple times a day it would be that I'll never have to pull out my driver's license in the future to get the number because I've now had the number seared into my brain!!:

Guess what, you also memorize your concealed carry license number really quickly! Must be from having memorized your DL and SS. I am lucky cause my CHL is mostly a series of repeating numbers...like 02130202...that isn't it, but you get the idea.

I'd block the site on my computer too. But there are too many other places where I can check the status. I'm afraid it just wouldnt do any good. But, I have got my DL number memorized just like the rest of us.

I checked every 10 min too while waiting for my renewal, which took exactly 30 days mailbox to mailbox. I realized during these incessant checks that my status only changed early in the morning, between 7am-9am. The rest of the day, it never changed.

Ahh but who cares? Incessant checkings is fun! You guys carry on! ;-)

I've known my DL # since I was 16. I remember staring at it so much and often and being so excited about receiving it. Then I played the numbers as intervals on the piano and that pattern has stuck in my head since.

Calling doesn't hurt either. Just spoke with Victor who was able to shed a bit of light on where my application is sitting. Background review is actually complete. Apparently the only thing left before I head to manufacturing is for the processors to scan the photos. He said that should be completed in a couple of days and the license should be in the mail in a week or so. :)

Makes me feel a bit better than just the yellow bars on the website.

Just thought I'd add my experience with "the process". I submitted my paperwork on 4/12 by priority mail, and it was received on 4/13. Just checked and it looks like everything is complete - final line is "Concealed Handgun License : Manufacturing". I'm assuming that means it's gone to printing and should soon be shipping?
Yes, you should see a 'Mailed' in the next day or two, then you're just waiting on the United States Postal Service which means you'll have to wean yourself off of checking the DPS website! Take baby steps... you'll soon shake the habit.

Awesome! Thanks for confirming my hopes! You also realize, of course, that you're asking the impossible. I've already broken out my tent, camp stove and freeze dried goods, and I'm setup at the mailbox. I can hold out here for weeks!!! :)
OK - sorry for the delay - had an unexpected trip out of town. Got back and discovered my CHL waiting for me. Looks like the turnaround was right around a month - mailed initial application on April 12th, and it looks like the license was received was received in the mailbox around 5/12 or 5/13. Seems pretty quick compared to some other wait times I've seen - could it be that it was an application for both a personal CHL AND to attend the CHL Instructor class?

Oh boy, what a great site to see:

DL or ID : Valid
Citizenship : No documentation required
Passport photo holder : Received
Photo : Received
Proof of Classroom training : Received
Proof of Proficiency training : Received
Fee : Received

So...the updated timeline looks something like this now:

4/15/2011 Complete package submitted to DPS
5/09/2011 Status change to "received/under review"

I'm guessing sometime next week/weekend I can do the Wally Walk?
