I think I have an answer to long wait to mail box?

After checking I found that there was a fire at a mail sorting center in Dallas and some state mail was lost in the fire. From talking a contact I learned a few agencies lost stuff that was being mailed out. Seems like stuff that would have been mailed during that time frame has dropped off the map.

This may be a plausible reason for some people, but I am in Houston. I see no reason for my mail to be sorted in Dallas, unless they are not actually manufactured in Austin. I guess only time will tell.

I am in Beaumont and mines is still not here. It seems as if the fire happened during the time we would have gotten ours.
I know one of the other state agencies had informed some people their mail was lost.

This is strange, I am in Corpus Christi and have been waiting about 3 weeks (Website said license was being printed 3 weeks ago) for my plastic. Maybe this is the delay for mine as well.

ss1088 is correct. Most major cities have a postal hub or presort house nearby. The envelope my plastic came in is marked from zipcode 78752. Now where it was run through the sorter, i don't know. I'll have to ask some of the techs at work if they can decode the IMB on the front of the envelope.

78752 = Austin

I find it unlikely that mine was lost in the fire.

After a long wait, I finally got through on the phone and asked DPS to look up my info. They said my license mailed on 1 Feb. When I expalined I had not recieved it they said to wait till next week and call back to have them reissue. I asked if mine could have been lost in the fire and he said it very likley but would not reissue due to having to wait 30 days. What a bummer but I guess I have no choice.

A lot of state mail was lost in that Fire. The state uses Pitney Bowes to hold down cost. Some of the agencies sent letters letting their workers know what zip codes lost stuff. In my case items sent to my zip code are routed to Dallas to come to Beaumont.

I sent an email to DPS 23 Feb asking about the fire and whether I should apply for a lost license. They replied back 1 Mar apologizing for any inconvenience and were issuing a new license. They also asked to allow 14-21 days for reissue. I'm just glad to here a final outcome. My license was originally mailed 1 Feb so I should have it mid Mar. :clapping:

I really wonder how many people lost stuff in the fire.
Look for your license in about 7 days. :thewave
