December 2010 Applications
Did my online registration and payment on December 26, 2010.
Took class on December 29th.
Mailed everything Certified Return Receipt on December 30th
Now...just waiting. Nothing on the DPS web site for tracking, but with all their problems, figured it wouldn't be accurate anyways.

Re: December 2010 Applications
You can count on it being 3 weeks after they received your information before anything shows up on the web site. I checked almost daily and there was absolutely nothing that even indicated they had received my stuff. Then, 3 weeks to the day my status appeard. From other post's I have read, it's not uncommon for the updates to stop at this point, as others have received their plastic and it still shows the Backgound Check under review.
Hurry up and wait.

Re: December 2010 Applications
Took the course and completed the online application on December 31st, mailed all documents on January 3rd. DPS website still says they're waiting to receive my paperwork, I figured it would take a while before this changed because of the problems I've heard about with their website. I did try to call the phone number listed just to confirm that all required paperwork had been received and that I wasn't missing anything, and I get a busy signal after the 1st ring every time I call (tried about 4 times over the past few hours).
My instructor told our class that the processing time takes anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks, I'm hoping it doesn't take any longer than 2 months.

Re: December 2010 Applications
Yesterday I decided to email the DPS CHL office just to confirm that they had received all my paperwork and to make sure they didn't need any more info, I received a response back within a couple hours and this morning the website was updated to show that they received everything and the background check and fingerprints are under review.

Re: December 2010 Applications
Hello all. Did my class and mailed in my application on the 17th of Dec. Last week it updated to say that everything had been received and my finger prints and background were being reviewed. Here it is the 12th of Jan. and it still says the same thing. I figured it would take longer to get things done because of the holidays to get my plastic. Any thoughts?

Re: December 2010 Applications
given that you mailed everything in right around the holidays, i doubt any significant progress was made on your application until after the holidays, so you're probably in the same boat as those of us who sent ours in at the end of December or beginning of January. you can probably expect to see something early February maybe? most people i've talked to recently have gotten theirs right around the 60-day mark.Mr.ViperBoa wrote:Hello all. Re: December 2010 Applications
Well, I figured I'd add my name to the list of December applications. I mailed mine on 14 Dec, they recieved it on the 20th. Got my letter in the mail about a week later and logged in. Everything was in the green except the background check. I called a few days ago and the operator said "they" were checking on something I self reported (see post "Question about self reporting... http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=41069" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Anyways, I'm just in a holding pattern with the rest of ya'll. I called my CHL instructor and asked him about the subject I self-reported and he said I shouldn't have anything to worry about (people in his class have been getting their licenses within the 4-6 week range). My instructors name was Gary Nycum (in Corpus Christi) and he gives a thorough and very interesting class. Hopefully I don't encounter any hiccups...I already ordered my holster.

Re: December 2010 Applications
I at least now on the radar with regard to the DPS site.
Shows they received my packet and things are "under review".
Funny thing is that I still have not gotten my "green" return receipt card back.

Re: December 2010 Applications
haven't received anything in the mail yet from DPS, but i've emailed back and forth with someone at their office a few times and the latest response is that, in general, right now new applications are taking 60 days to process. perhaps it's a case of underpromise and overdeliver and we'll get em in 4-6 weeks. at least the anticipation isn't nearly as bad as it was the week that i sent my packet off. now, as they say, i've just gotta hurry up and wait.

Re: December 2010 Applications
New update.
I singed in last night to check status, it said my finger print quality was bad. So now I have to go to F.A.S.T. and get them redone.
I tried to get in today and they wouldnt set a same day appointment, and since monday is a holiday I have to wait till Tuesday.
What I dont understand is why I need to redo my prints everytime I turn around. They have my prints on file from the first time I had my CHL dont they? Plus I was fingerpriinted with the state less than a year ago because my wife and I are foster parents. I used to do security work and they have them on file for that to. Sheeeesh! how many sets of prints do they need down there in Austin? lol... It's not like they change every year.

Re: December 2010 Applications
same here, i wonder how long the background check will take. how much different is this background check from the one they do when you purchase a firearm?mt_goodrich wrote:My status was updated from yesterday. My fingerprints are showing "green".
