Re: Sept. 2010 applications
Plastic is in Hand!
Curiously, it appears that a governmental entity did something "helpful" in the overall process. They seem to have waited for my birthday before printing the license, thereby saving me nearly a year before I must renew.
Divided Attention and I both applied online, then took the class together from CompVest and SRVA (excellent, engaging class and really nice folks) on September 25. Materials were sent to DPS on Sept. 27. Once the materials had been officially recieved and entered in the system we noticed that each step was completed at the same time up to the Manufacturing stage. Within a couple of days, the status for Divided Attention changed to Mailed, but mine did not. She received her plastic a couple of days before my birthday. My birthday came and then the day after my status changed to mailed. Now -- six calendar days later -- I have plastic.
I don't know if there is a policy in place regarding printing on or near someone's birthday, or if some observant person at DPS did me a favor. Whatever the case, it saved me nearly a year before renewal time.

Middle Aged Russ, this is Fat Old HarleyDave and yes jealous that you got yours so quick and nice they think that highly of you to send it after your b/d but yes jealously that they waited for an important holiday to close the post office and there is no guarantees I'll get it today. But congratulations and have you done your Wally walk as yet?

Re: Sept. 2010 applications
No Wally Walk yet. It just came in the mail today. DA and I need to do a walk of some sort soon, though she has already been carrying for the last week +.
For a primary carry option, we each have an S&W M&P 9C and IWB holsters - mine is an MTAC and hers is a Tucker TX Heritage. We have both been pleasantly surprised at how the M&P 9C conceals IWB and that will be the primary option except when we are at work or to/from. We have carried around the house a good bit in the last month, and unless one of us tells the other we are carrying, it is not readily apparent. As BUG/deep concealment, I have an S&W Bodyguard 380 and a DeSantis SuperFly pocket holster (should soon have a Durham Concealed Technology Ripcord), and DA has a SIG P238 with SIG belt holster, belly band (and soon a Durham Concealed Technology Comfort Carry).
Best of luck that your plastic comes today or tomorrow.

Sounds like y'all are perfectly set up their M. A. R and spouse. Looks like your both ready for the infamous Wally walk and yes hopefully we'll get ours today. Just my luck, probably the wife will get hers and mine will get lost in the mail but we'll see in several hours here. Take care be safe and let us all know how your Wally walk goes!

Yes Virginia there is a sanata claus and he is armed.
My finger prints and background check finally cleared.
This is so crazy.
Friday I get a call from the local gun shop that my back ordered handgun has finally arrived. I go in and ourchase it and pass the 4473 no problems. Now after the update to the dps website today i am cleared and the card is in the mail.

Re: Sept. 2010 applications
Finally got the plastic.
Got the wally walk in. Forgot a few times I was carrying as i got into looking at some items i was shopping for. The Kel tec pf-9 is pretty comfortable, so far range time has been good. Hope the reliability stays there. But for now, today was a good day.
