Re: "Waiting Room"
new member here. I'm approaching 1 year since I took the classes and sent the form and still don't have the plastic.
just emailed DPS to see if they could tell me anything. My father took the class with me and mailed his in when I did the first time, and he's had his plastic since last August

Re: "Waiting Room"
DPS received (according to USPS with Return receipt and tracking) my Packet on March 26th, but the website for DPS tracking the packet, shows "Packet mailed to applicant" still.
I wonder when they update the status of items.
Is it when they actual start to do work on the packet, or supposedly when they 'receive it'?
Just curious
Thanks

Re: "Waiting Room"
The status on the web site changes when DPS actually starts processing your application, not when they receive it.
People who send a check will see that they pull out the checks quickly, but they don't necessarily start processing the application that quickly.

Re: "Waiting Room"
Good Morning Ya'll,
I hand delivered my application to the DPS this morning (April 5th), The women working the front desk took the time to look over my papers, found mistake, and let me correct it on the spot. She said processing was talking about 60 days, due to some of the man power was also being use to help process the census.

Re: "Waiting Room"
Hmmm..there have been a few posts on this forum saying the end of April, the FBI would be doing Census fingerprint checks and would cause maybe a 2 week backlog in CHL processing, but you are saying that Texas DPS is doing things for the Census as well, and will maybe push it to 2 months. Yuck!
This is going to be a long 2 months, and I am sure I will wear out my mouse as I click on the DPS website checking the status every day, multiple times

Re: "Waiting Room"
Today I emailed DPS, just for grins, and questioned the status showing "Packet mailed to applicant"
They came back with "At this time we are awaiting the completion of the background investigation. Thank you for your continued patience."
So I commented that "More so, do you know when the website updates on the tracking? If that is current I wouldnt bother you( and im sure I am not the only one)"and they said that the "At this time it is current"
If it "is current" (at Packet Mailed to applicant) then I am confused by "we are awaiting the completion of the background investigation", but I am also elated that if they are awaiting that, then it is actually being looked at (I hope! )
So the status' may not change when things actually happen, but when they feel like updating it, but they (maybe) are working on it

Teamless, This is the quote directly from the DPS website:Teamless wrote:Hmmm..there have been a few posts on this forum saying the end of April, the FBI would be doing Census fingerprint checks and would cause maybe a 2 week backlog in CHL processing, but you are saying that Texas DPS is doing things for the Census as well, and will maybe push it to 2 months. "TXDPS has been notified by the FBI that all Fingerprint based background checks will be temporarily suspended beginning April 28, 2010 - May 3, 2010. The FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) will be working with the U.S. Census Bureau to process more than 484,000 Fingerprints for Census Bureau workers.
Beginning May 4, 2010, TXDPS and the FBI will resume processing applicant fingerprints. It is important to note that the backlog of processing the fingerprint based background checks could take an additional two weeks. All applications will processed as quickly as possible once the FBI service returns to normal.
We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience."
That looks like a week slip to me. I wouldn't stress over it too much. In fact, I'm choosing not to stress over it as I'm in the same boat. I'll wait until later in the week and give them an email to see how things are going with my application.

Re: "Waiting Room"
Yep, I am not worried about the FBI check, but
And my feeling on the end of April week loss, is that mine should be already completed (hopefully) by then
Thanks
and that is considerably longer of a delay than recent plastic recipients have had.mmw68 wrote:She said processing was talking about 60 days

Re: "Waiting Room"
I am going to remain cautiously optimistic. If you can believe the web site, their FAQ also states:Teamless wrote:Yep, I am not worried about the FBI check, butand that is considerably longer of a delay than recent plastic recipients have had.mmw68 wrote:She said processing was talking about 60 days

Check out my signature, even with a mistake and mailing it back it took less than 30 business days. We'll see how long till actual plastic in hand, though.

On today's news:
Concealed handgun permit backlog eliminated
by The Associated Press
Posted on April 7, 2010 at 3:59 PM
AUSTIN -- Texas has nearly wiped out a backlog of concealed handgun permit applications.
Department of Public Safety officials said Wednesday only 34 applications are considered late -- down from about 8,300 in August. The background check is now fully automated, and DPS hired temporary workers to help catch up.
New applications are supposed to be processed within 60 days, and renewals with 45 days. Both are currently running about 20 days, said Brad Rable, deputy director of DPS.
Rable says DPS has about 9,600 applications pending. DPS officials had blamed the delays in part on a surge in applications last year. Some cases took as long as four months.

Backlog is definitely eliminated! Even though it took me nearly a year from taking the class to sending it in, I have my plastic in 5 weeks, including a return for an error on an affidavit.
